Ich habe vor 2 Wochen mein neues Spectre mit Vega erhalten und habe dazu einen ersten Erfahrungsbericht erstellt. Ich habe den für mehrere Foren auf Englisch verfasst und bin noch nicht dazu gekommen ihn ins deutsche zu übersetzen daher erstmal so, ggf. kommt dann noch meine Übersetzung.
Case:
The aluminum body makes an impressive rigid base which feels cool to the touch and shows no unintended gaps between the top and bottom plate. The Build quality of the base is excellent and the center of the keyboard holds up to any pressure. The only downside for me is the rather sharp edge infront of the laptop. When sitting with the laptop on my lap this edge tends to irritade my wrists while typing on the keyboard.
The lid gives a similar rigid feel when opening, but it gives way a bit when pressure is applied in the center of the lid, it is not enough though to cause waves on the display.
The hinges are stiff enough to supress any wobbling while typing on a soft surface but they could be even slightly stiffer to secure the screen in its position more rigidly.
Keyboard and Touchpad:
The keyboard gives a good sturdy feel with a nice response to pressure of the keys. Each keay sits firmly in its spot and typing on it is a rather quite experience. The touchpad is precies and smooth and is decent mouse replacement. I personaly tend to use the bottom half of it which results in a clicking sound of the integrated mouse keys with each touch though which can get a bit annoying.
Display:
The Display is really bright and when editing photos or working with text the 4K-Resolution is a nice plus. Due to the glass protection layer it is highly reflective but it is still bright enough to be even used outside on a sunny day. I dont have the equipment to measure brightness or color accuracy but notebooksbilliger tested the version with core i7-U and Nvidia graphic which has the same panel. And according to their testing the Display has an average brightness of 329 cd/m² with a maximum of 358 cd/m² in the bottom center and a bightness distribution of 95 %.
SSD:
My model has the Samsung PM961 NVMe MZVLW512HMJP build in which according to CrystalDiskMark delivers the following performance:
- Seq Write: 1577 MB/s
- Seq Read: 3173 MB/s
- 4k Write: 122.4 MB/s
- 4k Read: 42.9 MB/s
CPU:
In CineBench R15 Multi the CPU 790 points. Running the benchmark in a loop results in a high initial score of 790 points before dipping to a steady score of around 760 points. While it's evident that the processor is unable to maintain maximum Turbo Boost speeds, the dip in performance is hard noticeable. When benchmarking it I got the following scores:
- Geekbench 4 Single: 4761
- Geekbench 4 Multi: 15816
- PC Mark 8 Home: 4085
- PC Mark 8 Creative: 6118
- PC Mark 8 Work: 4238
- PC Mark 10 Essentials: 8137
- PC Mark 10 Productivity: 6202
- PC Mark 10 Content Creation: 5481
- PC Mark 10 Total Score: 4671
Interestingly though is that when running prime95 after 10 min the TDP of 45 W drops to first 27 W and after 45 min to 22 W. This results in the CPU-Frequency dropping from 3,1 GHz to 2,2 GHz and finaly 1,9 GHz.
Seeing this I undervolted the CPU and was able to apply a value of 120 mV to the base core voltage. While TDPs, Temperatures and Fan-RPMs stayed the same I was able to up CPU-Frequency to 3,5 GHz which then dropped to 2,9 GHz and reached a sustainable 2,66 GHz. The drops in the CPU-Frequnecy in the middle of 27 W period are due to me setting the undervolt to 0 mV to compare its original achievable frequencies.

In the bios there are two modes for the laptop: Performance (preset) and Balanced. Switching it to Balanced results in a much smaller TDP envelope and lower Fan-RPMs.

GPU:
The GPU has a max frequency of 1011 MHz which it sustains until it reaches 80°C. Reaching that temperature results in reducing the frequency slowly down to as low as 440 MHz until it reaches 70°C when the clock speed is then slightly increased again and the temperature stays stable at 72°C. This behavior was shown when running FurMark. In games the GPU was able to maintain its max frequency of 1011 MHz for the most part. When stressing the CPU and GPU the GPU seems to be favored and pulls up to 45 W until it reaches its maximum temperature. When benchmarking it I got the following scores:
- 3DMark Cloud Gate 1080p: 20289
- 3DMark Fire Strike: 6262
- 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme: 65327
- 3DMark Ski Diver: 18675
- 3DMark Time Spy: 2204
Fan Noise:
I measured the Fan-Noise with the app DecibelX which is supposed to be calibrated. I wouldnt necessarily trust these results 100% but I think it gives a good indication.
Fan Noise under max Stress:
I ran Prime95 and Furmark for 20 min prior to measuring the soundlevels to ensure i would measure the absolut maximum.
Performance Mode: Measured central above the keyboard - 41 dB and 47 dB next to the air outlets
Balanced Mode: Measured central above the keyboard - 37 dB and 44 dB next to the air outlets
Fan Noise in idle:
In the Bios is a setting for the fan behavior in idle, it can be set to "always on" (default) or to "off". When set to always on the left fan is always spinning and the right fan kicks in if needed. When set to off both fans kick in if needed.
Set to "always on": In idle I measured 29 dB central above the keyboard and 34 dB next to the air outlets with temperature oscilating between 40 and 45°C. When browsing the noise level ocasionaly increased to 31 dB central above the keyboard and 36 dB next to the air outlets.
Set to "Off": In idle the fans stayed off and the CPU temperature oscilated between 45 and 51°C. When browsing the CPU temperature will rise up to 60°C before both fans kick in. This results in a noise level of 31 dB central above the keyboard and 36 dB next to the air outlets. Both fans remain active until the CPU temperature drops down to 44°C when both fans turn off.
Temperatures:
Since I dont own an infrared camera I measured the case Temperatures with an infrared laser thermometer. I again ran Prime95 and Furmark for 20 min prior to measuring the temperatures to ensure I would measure the absolut maximum.
On the bottom the laptop gets the hottest in the center of the airintake. Here it reaches up to 54°C (Sorrounding Temp. 28°C) which is uncomfortable to the touch. On the sides where it would rest on your legs it gets warm but not quite as hot, so it still causes sweaty legs under continous maximum load but it doesnt burn your legs.
The handrest stays even under continous maximum rather cool and reaches 33°C in its warmest spot.
The Keyboard itself gets a bit warmer but is with 38°C still comfortable to touch. The metal spacing between the keys around the U and the I can reach up to 46°C though, but if the user doesnt explicitly try to touch the metal spacers it has no impact.
Battery Life:
I tested the Batter Life in various conditions and got the following results (Undervolted):
- Prime95 and Furmark Stress and 100% Brightness: 2h 47min
- PCMark 8 Home and 100% Brightness: 3h 18min
- BuckBunny 1080p VideoLoop and 30% Brightness: 8h 05min
- BuckBunny 1080p VideoLoop and 0% Brightness: 9h 52min
- Browsing and Text-Editing at 50% Brightness: ~5h
(In my Opinion 50% Brightness was a comfortable Brightness to work in a full daylight lit room, in the evening I had to reduce the Brightness down to 30% otherwise it felt to bright even with the room lights all turned on)
