Pricey budget gamer. Budget gaming notebooks are becoming increasingly popular thanks to GPUs like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, and Asus has decided to throw their hat into the budget ring with the GL553VD. The notebook packs modest hardware into a well-built chassis with some nice extras, but are these factors worth the additional cost?

About battery
After using it for 1 month, my battery's capaticity has decreased  0,7% ( from 48420 to 47,938 mwh)
In idle mode, it just can use for 3 hours for sure ( turn on the computer and not do anything at the first time i use it ). Also, it can plays LOL at highest setting ( using GTX 1050 ) for about 1 hour till the battery decreases to 20%. Both use power saver mode (win 10) and power saver plant which has the highest performance of cpu is limited at 50%, brightness is set to 0, wifi is off b/c i use ethernet instead ( on the idle mode test i disable ethernet device )
About speakers
In general, it's average compared to gaming laptops, the rest are told in the review. Beside that, don't no why but when i adjust the volume's balance, it seems that left speaker is little bit smaller and not as warm and clear as the right one.

I have a notebook like this one and I'd like to install a M.2 SSD on it, my question is, What interface of M.2 supports? M or M+B? (sorry for my bad english)

The review mentions that there is no backlight bleed, but looking on Amazon reviews all I can see is comments about people saying there is an awful amount of backlight bleed. Is something dodgy going on with these reviews such as Asus sending you a slightly better than normal unit for testing so they get better reviews?

Especially backlight bleeding is often also a quality issue and not happening on all devices. It depends on how good the border and display are fitted in.

I want to point out and warn potential buyers that this laptop randomly comes with either the IPS screen (mentioned in this review) or a very poor quality TN-panel. I already received two different type numbers of this laptop the last few days (dm535t & dm665t) both of which had the TN-panel, without the seller knowing this.

Apparently it is (even) possible that the screens are different within the same type number, as ASUS told me they can only tell which panel a certain laptop has by checking the serial number (so you won't know until you have the laptop in your hands).

This is what Asus states on their site about the screen of the GL553VD (so without any typenumber, thus implying it applies to all the GL553VD-versions):

"BREATHTAKING VISUALS

ROG Strix GL553 features a 15.6-inch Full HD panel with wide-view angles. The panel ensures great contrast and color consistency, and there's no color shift even when you're viewing it from extreme positions. It has a matte finish too, so there's no glare or reflections to distract you during gaming."

And this is the specific TN-panel that they - randomly, it seems - put in this laptop: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-FX502VM-AS73-Notebook-Review.199250.0.html.

I can fully confirm the poor qualitiy of the TN-panel on the two GL553VD's I recently received (and returned of course): no viewing angle whatsoever, low brightness and contrast and colors way off. In fact, it's even poor by TN-panel standards....

I told Asus all this, but it became clear they really don't mind.

Hello.
im so messed up with my current laptop, so i just planned to upgrade it to this Asus Rog Strix GL553VD gaming laptop. I just compared it to a lot of laptops in that price range and thought that this one is the best among them (according to my own perspective and reviews). After seeing this article in this website i noticed that there is fairly poor performance is shown by this Asus laptop during Gaming. I'm a Gamer and this kinda poor frame rates cant fully satisfy me.
I just skipped Dell Inspiron 15 7567 due to its screen. but in case of performance it is up a level than Asus. So, Im again confused about my decison. Is it good to go with Asus or do i need to rethink before buying ?
Expert advice required. very much thankful if replied.
Thank you.

I've had the GL553VD for the last three months now and have to say, I love it. I have it in slightly different spec (8GB RAM, 256 M.2 SSD) so my experience is better than what's in the review. I chose this laptop because it was the only one in my price range offering an SSD with a DVD drive, so that I could replace it with a 1TB HDD in a caddy (I had no idea it had m.2, so I can have an SSD for system and games, HDD for storage and DVD drive).
I opted for this laptop for it's upgradability. I can easily live with it for the next few years, since I can upgrade the RAM and drives (the M.2 it came with is only SATA, NVMe is the faster option, the HDD will go instead of the DVD while another SSD will take its' place. Get this, a laptop with 3 storage drives!). The CPU and GPU are decent enough, though the Ti would have been better for more stable FPS, but compared to what I've been used to, it's still amazing :D
@Akarsh, I'd say the performace is down on Dell because of the slow HDD, but can't be 100% sure, haven't tested it.

IDK but I think you can answer that yourself by looking at the "Doom Eternal Minimum Requirements" right?

Generally speaking the "xx50" series is the WEAKEST dGPU of Nvidia's products. While usually an order of magnitude better than the iGPU's that are available they are fairly limited but will allow 'simple' games to run at lower resolutions and details settings.
