This is a ThinkPad, not an IdeaPad. [***] forget about that clickpad madness. TracPoint buttons will not function well in the form of a clickpad. Try it, suffer it, then forget it.

Well all look nice - except for the missing back lit keys and the missing HDMI.

Similar 14" have typically a HDMI instead of the VGA connector, so why ?

So on to it again, and make an Ultrabook as users expect in the year 2013  :(

A further comment to the review, the combo display port can actually be extended to HDMI via a cable, perhaps many readers do not realize this, the review should specify this !

I think its a shame the excellent notebookchek do not comment much more on what is unknown by most, as to Lenovo notebooks - the option for charging the battery while mains plugged in - only Lenovo supports partial charge of the battery ( I have heard also pro series of HP supports this ). All other notebooks charge the battery constantly to 100% when plugged to mains - shorting the battery live dramatically ! Which is one one of the main reasons I personally prefer Lenovo, as desktop replacement - think we are many having the unit plugged to mains 99% of the time.

As to this T440s, only point of improvement is the lack of back lit keys - this is done like HP, in a transparent key, and not as sourounding light - easy to implement, by using painted transparent plastic, leaving the text on the key un-painted. So hope Lenovo will implement this - soon.

A comment on the Think Pad series - spare parts can be ordered on the net, which is not possible for the lower-end models - if a part break, you have to bring the machine in to a repair shop, they refuse to sell you the spare part for self-repair !

Final comment is on the HDD, I like its a standard drive, and not a SSD/HDD combo, which is good, SSD/HDD combos are problematic.

Also nice to see they havnt stuffed in an "end-of-life" dedicated graphics card !

It is a joke to put a TN panel in as screen for a high priced high level laptop.

Lenovo has destroyed the perceived experience of quality in the T range labtop.

The daily annoyances by lack of image quality using a T-model with TN panel is appalling.

Either ignorance or greed must have lead to this demise (old T60/T61 model had superior screens by far in comparison). 
However, Lenovo are apparently not more ignorant, than they have cleverly and  systematically removed any information in all specifications that could show which panel type a given laptop model is actually fitted with.

The 1920 resolution is too high for daily work: 1600x900 is good for work in 14 inch screen, but NOT if a TN panel is used.

It is no go for any more purchases of Lenovo T-Thinkpads with TN panels!!

The lack of physical buttons with the track point is indeed concerning.  The removal of physical buttons reeks of that Apple form over function mentality that has unfortunately become so prevalent in the mass market.

Also, the new T-series laptops seem to be missing a hard disk activity indicator.  At times such an indicator is a critical piece of feedback from the system.  Perhaps it's time to go out and buy a T430s because the future is looking dim.

Totally agree! This is the reason I'm goint to leave Lenovo completely and I'm not the only one for sure. T420s is my last Thinkpad with dedicated touchpad buttons and classic keyboard (& with X1 Carbon - Wide Viewing Angle - LCD upgraded by myself).

Compared to other brands, Lenovo has poor LCD, look ugly, too large and are overpriced. I love their keyboards and the trackpoint. I love trackpoint so much that I buy Lenovo for the trackpoint alone. It is time to upgrade from my T420, but I worry about the missing trackpoint buttions...

What the F@ is this? It is not Thinkpad
It should be a classic business laptop.
If you a business man You won't drive a Opel Astra, Corsa or fiat punto or Renault Megan.
Nice laptop (the hardware) ...(nice cars) BUT!
If you a business man you will...you shuold drive BMW or Jaguar or Mercedes.

Where is the blue buttons? The color full connectors. Expensive the color in the plastic?

The front line is sharp on T440...it is hurt my arm.

Okey we understand you made, you should made normal laptop..for example Y510 and Yoga... okey not problem..these is nice ... but made "Classic" marketing also.


You shouldn't change nothing...just the harware:
CPU (middle and top)
+GPU (very good middle) (other company can put Gef 640,740, ati 8870 in thinner laptops...in thinkpad just middle low  why?)

Thats all...you don't need to develop new (sh@t) stlye and pay much for marketing.

What should buy now? Samsung, Asus, Acer?...in same price? with better hardware?
