Hallo,

ich habe mir das XMG P705 mit Nvidia GTX 970 gekauft und betreibe es mit Arch Linux.
Bis jetzt läuft alles ohne Probleme.
Auch Bumblebee funktioniert. Läuft super.

Vorher hatte ich das XMG a102 in Benutzung. Dort war auch alles in Ordnung. Irgendwann hat Bumblebee bei mir nicht mehr funktioniert, aufgrund eines Nvidia Bugs in Bezug auf die GTX650. (glaube zumindest, dass es daran lag).
Mittlerweile läuft dort auch Bumblebee wieder (mit einem Workaround), aber mit sehr schlechter Performance.



Es müsste noch AutoCAD auf Linux laufen und ich würde Windows abschaffen.

Ich habe auf dem XMG a102 Archlinux neu installiert.
Mittlerweile funktioniert dort Bumblebee auch wieder ohne Probleme.

So, auch ein Erfahrungsbericht von mir:
ElementaryOS 0.3 auf XMG A501, läuft out-of-the-Box mit Bumblebee, Akkulaufzeit ist leider etwas geringer als unter Windows, aber sonst geht alles.
Kleinere Fehler:
->Nach Reboot in Windows geht der Kopfhörerausgang nicht
->Touchpad stirbt manchmal

Der Patch den ich hier verlinkt hab ist inzwischen im Linux mainline kernel angekommen.

Das heißt: Wer unter Arch statt linux einfach linux-mainline als kernel installiert sollte den Patch haben, das Touchpad funktioniert also.

Wie es unter anderen Systemen aussieht weiß ich nicht, es kommt darauf an wie schnell der aktuellste Linux kernel dort ankommt.

Hello everyone,

i have hard time to setup debian on an XMG P505. After some emails with Schenker/XMG linux support i was told to ask at this thread, even in english - they stated that the users where awesome over here.

Anyway...The XMG P505 arrived with Win 8.1 preinstalled. I repartitioned the disk to make room for my linux (debian wheezy) install, and used https://rufus.akeo.ie/ on Windows to create an USB UEFI bootable drive with http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/7.8.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-7.8.0-amd64-netinst.iso
My idea is...

0. secure-boot off
1. install debian without any bootloader, chroot into it using "rescue mode" form the install disk
2. use efilinux, copying it to the EFI partition (/dev/sda2 on my box) to /EFI/Efilinux/efilinux.efi (i could not compile gummiboot from source on the debian wheezy)
3. add the boot entry to the NVRAM (using efibootmgr)
4. boot up using this entry from the main-boards firmware
(5. install Linux Foundations loader.efi)
(6. secure-boot on)
(7. profit)

Now, i did it until step 3, but the firmware bootloader refuses to boot the installed efi...
Next idea was, to use an efi shell to load the efilinux manually, to debug any configuration issues..

1. get shell.efi (downloaded https://svn.code.sf.net/p/edk2/code/trunk/edk2/ShellBinPkg/UefiShell/X64/Shell.efi)
2. copy shell.efi to /boot/efi/Shellx64.efi (tried /boot/efi/EFI/Shellx64.efi as well)
3. reboot into mobo firmware
4. select boot efi shell from detected hardware...

Step 4 without any luck. The only hint being the firmware saying "no". So i got suspicious...
Any way to debug/see errors ocurring during efi loading?
Any other suggestions (apart of trying grub-efi, i would like to keep it as simple as possible)?

Back again with updates...
It looks like the shellx64.efi i pasted before is corrupt or incompatible with my motherboard. I had luck with this one https://svn.code.sf.net/p/edk2/code/trunk/edk2/EdkShellBinPkg/FullShell/X64/Shell_Full.efi, copied in the root of the efi partition as Shellx64.efi.

Since the "wheezy" release comes with an older kernel that did not support some of my hardware, i decided to install the testing branch ("jessie"). This one comes with gummiboot in its repositories, i did install that and it works. Still no secure boot, but i can boot into debian.

Bumblebee with primus seems to work - the led on the laptop indicating when the discreet card is in use does not light up anymore on boot.
Now i noticed a few things:

• ...the wifi (intel dual band wireless-ac 7265) has a really bad connection, sometimes with package losses up to 70-80% pinging my router.
• ...the laptops function keys do not work (volume, screen brightness, etc.

If anybody had issues with the wifi card and could solve it, please let me know.

Auf meinem B513 läuft Linux out-of-the-box.
Man muß eine halbwegs aktuelle Distribution nehmen. Lubuntu hatte alles inkl. USB etc. erkannt und lief sofort.
Clonezilla auch.

Hallo,

auf meinem P504 läuft seit ein paar Wochen ArchLinux. Die Installation und bisherige Konfiguration hat ohne größere Probleme und mit Hilfe des ArchWikis gut geklappt. Allerdings versuche ich gerade die integrierte Webcam zum laufen zu bringen, finde aber einfach kein Gerät, das die Webcam repräsentiert.

Im Anhang sind ein paar Ausgaben von Befehlen, die vielleicht helfen können.

Hat schon jemand ein P505 mit Linux ausgestattet, vorzugsweise mit Ubuntu?
Funktioniert Optimus vernünftig?

Kleiner Tipp:

Bei Problemen mit der Helligkeitsregelung oder ACPI hilft oft der Boot Parameter "acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=vendor"

Falls ihr massive Probleme mit der Installation oder den Treibern habt, könnt ihr auch zu Linux Mint greifen.
Mit Linux Mit habe ich ganz gute Erfahrungen mit neuer Hardware gemacht.

Kurz gesagt: Bumblebee funktioniert - aber man muss es manuell pro Applikation festlegen bzw. entsprechende Launcher anlegen.

seit ein paar Tagen besitze ich ein XMG U705, ein echtes Super-Teil !!
Nun wollte ich ein Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) installieren und habe das Problem, dass nach kurzer Laufzeit Touchpad und Tastatur vollständig aufhören zu reagieren. Stecke ich USB-Maus/Tastatur an, kann ich mit diesen arbeiten.
xinput liefert folgende Ausgabe, wenn die Tastatur funktioniert:

Das PS/2-Touchpad fehlt dann komplett.

Manchmal lässt sich das Problem durch einen Neustart beheben, manchmal nicht.
Den nvidia-grafiktreiber habe ich natürlich schon installiert und der läuft auch.

Hat mir vielleicht jemand nen Rat/einen Ansatz ?
