Review Nokia Lumia 920 Smartphone

Last chance. Nokia is one of Microsoft's most important partners for launching the Windows 8 Phone. The Lumia 920 stands out from the contenders with a unique design, good camera and additional apps. The Finnish company demands EUR 649 (RRP) for the premium model.

The scoring for individual characteristics (weight, temperature, etc.) is calculated from the perspective of a notebook. High weight and temperature scores are thus not uncommon for our smartphone and tablet reviews.

Heavy does not mean a lower score. Not everyone thinks that a light phone is a positive thing you know. It could mean a sign of stingy manufacturing while a decently heavy smartphone gives a sign of more effort being put into it.

The 8X has a 4.3 inch screen size, not 4.5 like the lumia 920. Also, the 920 is more than just a "decent" smartphone. It is certainly one of the best, and any normal person will be able to deal with the weight and size over time, if that even is a drawback.

The sunlight viewing of the screen is actually very good because they include a light polarizer in the screen (also in the Lumia 900), so while its a bright screen (I think it claims to be the brightest) the actual sunlight readability is achieved by the "clearblack" polarized glass.

A low  light picture would have been good to demo the camera though, as for me (and apparently a lot of other people) the low light capability clinches the deal.  For me most camera's are fine when there is plenty of light, but awful as soon as the light drops a little.

I have an iPhone 5, iPhone 4s and an older Android HTC Inspire.  By far I find the Nokia 920 superior, for reasons not included above:

1.  Unlike Android and Blackberry, it has complete vertical integration, if fully integrating your phone to an entire system is important to you.
2.  Call quality is far superior to all the other aforementioned phones.
3.  Just as simple to use as an iPhone, but offers greater customization.
4.  Output volume far exceeds the others.  When using Apple navigation, I would often have to lift up the phone to my ear just to hear the voice prompts. Nokia is loud and clear.
5.  Re-sizing the fonts.  Since I need to use reading glasses, this can be problematic when receiving a text while driving.  Before driving, I enlarge the font size and can proceed safely. 
6.  Granted, it does not have a gadzillion apps like the iPhone; but let's face it, 99.99% of those apps are junk that no one will ever use anyways.  Nokia has all the apps one is most likely to use:  social networking, travel, tasks, world time, units converting, and music.  Granted that Apple has an app available for whatever special interest ANY person may want, whereas at this time Nokia is limited to having only apps that most people would want.
7.  I keep seeing side-by-side pictures by reviewers that show the Nokia camera looking bland next to the iPhone 5/4s. I find the pictures from the Nokia to be every bit as good as the iPhone's.  Perhaps these reviewers need to check their settings.
