Hey guys, I am loving my Asus N56VZ.  I modded mine with a harddrive caddy in place of the bluray drive.  I added a 120gb SSD for the OS and programs and it is VERY QUICK!  It runs a ton of programs at the same time (including large photoshop files) and I rarely have to wait...ever.  I ended up sticking the bluray drive in an external case so I can still use it.  Love this notebook!

I found a different setup for this computer, 3630QM with 12gig ram (4+8) with 650m  4 gig card.  I was wondering whether it was a little bit too much for this computer.  Any comments?

Really amazing analysis.
however, I think the temperature is a little high.
During playing games, the core and GPU rise above 70 C. the left side of the touchpad is really hot.
suprisingly, there is almost no noise from the computer, sometimes I wonder if the fan of the laptop really work. lol

A very  powerful  and quiet laptop. Quite enjoyable. Two points regarding the keyboard: the arrows disposition is a bit surprizing and takes some time to get used to. I also miss the of indication of Num lock and Uppercase, which could have easily been incorporated into the keys to preserve the beautiful design.

I have the 3630QM with 16gig ram (8 + 8) variant. Sadly, our variant here in SE Asia has no backlight. But in terms of performance, this has got to be the best bang for buck gaming system. And it looks gorgeous too. Most gaming laptops are dark and alien-like looking (Alienware is very expensive too). This one is elegant looking, and the sound quality is awesome.

price/quality and considering all the options you get from this product I can with most certainty say that it is an amazing laptop. although I had a problem with mine, Nvidia was faulty so after just a month of usage I sent it to repairs. haven't received it back yet but as long as it gets fixed I shall be satisfied. you should definitely get one of those, you can for only 1k euros. I wont be saying how good it is overall since other comments have already described it. only real problem is probably the fact that it is so slim, which means that it's cooling system has real difficulties and I have noticed the issue indicated in the review about it being too damn hot and loosing its power. just get a good cooler, with flow directed into the vents like I did and everything will be OK.

Can anyone please answer me. I have asus n56v but this is not quite. There is noise coming from the hard disk. I took it to the service they changed the hard disk but I can still hear the noise, it is like the noise you hear when you just start the computer. Do you also have the same noise.

You could try to uncheck the option "allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" in hard drive properties, which you can see here:

Worked for me on Win7, the hard drive got a bit more quiet.

I just wanted to give some feedback about this laptop. I've had it for over a year now and am very very happy with it. Almost everything is great about it. The list of negative things is much shorter than the positve list, thus a couple of things that could be better: It's really annoying to change the volume of the speakers since the "fn" key has to be pressed as well as "vol-up / vol-down" (couldn't find anything to change this in BIOS or anywhere else) and the spacing from the "rest of the keyboard" to the "up/down/left/right"-keys. Otherwise great great machine for a very good price.

Hi, Im planning to buy either the latest hp envy 15-4rth Gen J series non touch HD laptop or the ASUS n56vz. My only concern is that the ASUS N56 laptop is quite heavy when compared with the HP. I do not have much reviews about the HP J series. All i know is that the audio of HP is incredible. Would you recommend ASUS N56vz over HP J series.

Could you please say what is the exact score for professional sRGB and AdobeRGB coverage? In same reviews there is exact gamut coverage in % given whereas here you just say that the two are not covered by the display. Thanks.

Excelent review, but i cant find that passage where you sayd "i dont know if the Num Lock button is activated or deactivated because have no light to show you this. The Caps Lock button, have no led to detect if is activated or deactivated, it have just la low led near near HDD led, wich you cant see it, because is to low and not in keyboard visibility range.

My girlfriend has this laptop since it came out. It's quite clear that we're dealing with a consumer laptop and not a business oriented model. I opened it to upgrader the RAM, put an SSD, move the HDD instead of DVDRW, change battery. Here are some opinions with issues and general info:
- lots of incompatibility with RAM modules, I barely found some that work...
- every time I open the case, some piece of plastic falls off from inside, very interesting....
- issues with Power-ON button, now it needs to be pressed really hard to fully turn on the system, or else it turns on only the LED ...
- hinges broke already after 2 years
- keyboard and touchpad overly uncomfortable
- original ASUS batteries very expensive...
- her laptop came with Windows 7 Home Basic (really...bad)

Good points:
- nice screen..
- fast processor, if you add SSD
- good audio

I own the N56V version since about 2011/2012 and I never had any issues. In 2023 (almost 2024) I am still very happy with it. During all those years I replaced the following parts:

- the original HDD for a Samsung 1Tb SSD
- the CDROM drive for a 1 Tb classical WD Black HDD and now occassionally use an external CDROM drive
- the CPU fan (the original was defective)
- the battery (the original was defective)

And that's it. Of course, you cannot run games like Witcher 3 on this machine, but if you are not a heavy gamer, you can still perfectly play older games on lower settings. It is a perfect laptop for Office / Internet / Video / Skype, you name it.

Every year I consider buying a new laptop - for fiscal reasons - but I don't see much added value (except for gaming), so I continue to keep my good old ASUS N56V.
