A personal visit to Apple and Google in California: The differences could hardly be greater

Want to drop by and say hello to Tim Cook at Apple or Sundar Pichai at Google? Of course, visitors to the two tech giants in Cupertino and Mountain View are rather limited in their choice of activities. Nevertheless, the stark differences in public access to the two headquarters is very revealing, even if you know nothing about the "open" Android or "closed" Apple ecosystems.

Apple gets a lot of money from selling your personal data (since only they can collect it), so of course they will hide it from you!

To this day I still don't know how Apple became so popular. 4 years ago was my first time owning the iPhone and realized why iPhone users never turn off GPS, Bluetooth or wifi....its because the UI is so trash that you need to move 3-4 layers of buttons/menus to finally interact with it.

Always thought the users were just lazy or computer illiterate, nope, it's because they all gave up.

Also why can't you turn off the typing sound? Terrible just terrible.

In iOS 17, there's a bug where the typing sound suddenly gets super high out of nowhere. Really annoying. And yeah, I also hate the fact that "turning off" Wi-Fi or Bluetooth from their control center doesnt actually turns it off. Really dumb design

Frankly, I've owned almost ALL of them at one point or other. Coming from a 'feature phone' to Palm based devices to WinCE to Android to finally iOS.

While IDK how much support (or NOT!) new devices now get however my last 'Android' devices were 'one and done' top of the line from major vendors (not Google as they had not entered the market at that point with their own devices).

Back then Android devices had the rather NASTY habit of UNLOCKING the screen if you were answering calls with a Bluetooth headset. "Nasty" as if your device was packed away in a pocket or backpack once unlocked the 'juggling' during transport would often open countless APPS, over heat and drain your devices battery in the process. :(

I switch to iOS with the iPhone5 (Nether the 5,7 or 10 which I currently own unlock the screen when answering the phone with a BT headset!)

I keep the 'gear' icon on the bottom of the screen and turning on/off WiFi, GPS or Bluetooth has ALWAYS BEEN just as quick & easy as it was on Android devices.

Surely I don't recall WHAT iOS the iPhoneX (10) came with however here in 2025 it is STILL SUPPORTED. (running out soon!)

Sure "Android" based devices have FAR MORE user settings and custom features.

BIG DEAL. I have little or no need or use for them.

Primary it is a PHONE. There might be a HANDFUL of APP's I use.

Again - BIG DEAL.
