The latest OnePlus flagship phone uses the best components at an affordable price relative to the competition. A Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and technologies such as Si/C battery and MagSafe wireless charging are available. However, the OnePlus 13 has a few compromises that it needs to contend with.

I really want to love this phone but the lack of consistent security upgrade cadence makes it a no-go.

The Pixel 9 performance is embarrassing at this point with some benches at less than 50%.  Google would just be better off using 2nd or even 3rd generation-old Snapdragons at this point versus Tensor, which really hasn't evolved much in ~4 years...

For what do you need consistent security updates if I may ask? If it's workplace that has such strict / high requirements - then they really should be providing you a device on their behalf and paying for it.

As for Google, they just care about saving money that's all. And know not going Snapdragon will cost them 1/3rd to possibly 1/4th the total SoC cost. They also know that they have more money than most of these other companies and competitors combined so they can just outspend them in r&d and in long run eventually build something superior.

Honestly don't think Google is interested at all in raw performance or benchmarks. Pretty sure if it was the goal they'd of built something competitive by now. Seems theyre most interested only in features that help  using their AI Cloud services or improving their machine learning photography algorithms.

Former IT Manager.  I lived and breathed security for 20+ years and it's in my bones.

I agree, performance isn't everything.  Which is why I have stuck with Pixels.  The geek in me also wants somewhat decent performance.

Have you noticed any problems with auto-brightness? I have an Oneplus 8, and it's just pissing me off - the screen is too dim outdoors and too bright at night. I read online that for some unknown reason ColorOS lacks Android's Adaptive Brightness module (it helps the phone know what screen brightness you prefer in different lighting conditions).

Have a OnePlus 12R and it doesn't have brightness issues.

Aren't you surprised by your own battery life results?! The operating time when playing video is longer than without any load? How can this be?
