AMD is expected to announce its much-hyped Strix Halo high-performance mobile chips at CES 2025, which will likely be accompanied by the Krackan Point APUs as well. A recent Geekbench listing sheds light on the performance of the 8-core Ryzen AI 7 350, and the scores seem promising.

Who writes this crap? Headline says thrashes 8845HS and then in body of story says slightly beats it.

And as others said, WTaF has Halo got to do with thios story??? Krackan Point is entry level apu more a cut down Strix Point only offering a max of 8 cores, unlike Strix's 12 cores. It's effectively Hawk Point successor with much better npu and RDNA3.5 for the iGPU.

The M4 is far ahead indeed, ~15k vs ~11k and ~3.7k vs ~2.6k.

The APU in question was tested in an Acer Swift, most likely a thin and light. Since this is very early data, the comparison was made using the information found in GB6 benchmark charts. Once the APU is released and tested in systems with higher thermal budgets, the improvements will become clearer.

Yes, this has nothing to do with Strix Halo, except that both of these lineups will presumably be announced at CES. It made sense to highlight what's to come from AMD for both thin and light, as well as performance systems. I don't see how that makes the article difficult to comprehend.

This is such an idiotic take... 🤦😑 Kraken Point isn't a Phoenix 1/Hawk Point successor genius. It's a significantly smaller chip than both! It's a direct successor to the equally tiny Phoenix 2 die. The fact that it can essentially match Phoenix 1 CPU's performance in a tiny Phoenix 2 sized package is CRAZY IMPRESSIVE!!!

It isn't faster in CPU nor GPU. The die size is actually larger than Phoenix (>178mm2). Because guess what AMD did? Added a bigger NPU compared to Phoenix.

Are the "rumors" from the same sources that claimed the PS5-Pro was going to be 'trading blows' with 4070's??? LOL!!!

While surely AMD may at some point release dedicated mobile GPU's the CURRENT generation iGPU's can barely 'trade blows' with +6yo dedicated mobile GPU's.

The likelyhood of a current generation iGPU keeping up with a current generation mobile dGPU just ain't going to happen.

People need to relax. It's not like you'll be able to purchase it anytime soon at a reasonable price.

I can already purchase a ultra 7 258v Lenovo laptop 32GB with 1TB for 1000 (possibly lower if other discounts are stacked) where I'm at.

Lunar lake literally just launched 2 months ago. Strix point launched 6 months ago, prices are 1600 for less ram and storage and amd still hasnt supplied the latency fix to OEMs like they did for desktop.

Just lol. They're living in a completely different universe.

If lunar lake laptops are already hitting such competitive price points, I'm expecting 500-600 handhelds with this chip relatively soonish.

I'm actually surprised because I remember the meteor lake launch and it didn't go as smoothly. Initially was limited volume for awhile and it was kind expensive to until many months later. Guess Pat did a solid job for lunar lake launch.

But I just don't see how they're making any money off of it? They must be selling these at a loss as there's no way they're able to sell this chip at those prices at a decent margin on 3nm tsmc node?
