AMD captures record 28.7 percent desktop CPU market share

AMD achieves its biggest quarterly desktop CPU market share gain since 2016, capturing 28.7 percent with strong high-end processor sales. The company also sees growth in mobile and server segments, with its data center revenue surpassing Intel's for the first time at $3.549 billion.

What?! Intel holds 71.3 percent in desktops and 77.7 percent in the mobile segment?
I have read multiple times here in comments that NOBODY buys Intel anymore. :D

I'm guessing that this is due to the majority of marketshare being OEM pre-built PC's (AMD is huge in DIY segment but this is a very niche market relatively speaking). Also there's ton's of internet cafe's in Asia still running old intel setup's.

When you combine all this with the fact that the majority of people don't upgrade every 6-12 months like enthusiasts do but more like 5-7 years. This may explain the numbers, it takes a long time to shift marketshare.

Recent desktop quarters show intel is hemorrhaging market share steeply so I would expect a major shift now in the change of market share during the next few years. (Yes I know it's been said millions of times but for real this time. Just don't see how OEM are gonna be able to get away with selling alder lake performance 4 years in a row with consumer market responding appropriately)

While AMD Fanboi's clearly DON'T buy Intel products (the Fanboi's after all are only a SMALL percentage of AMD's market share) many/most OEM's still offer Intel powered devices and customers are still purchasing them.

The REALITY is that 'raw performance' or 'battery life' are NOT the ONLY considerations when purchasing a desktop or laptop system. If we take into consideration the LACK of AMD inventory across many market segments compared to the FLOOD of Intel products (many of which might be steeply discounted) it is not difficult to see how/why any market shifts are going to be slow.

YES AMD is gaining market share. How much or how quickly only time will tell.
