Ryujinx and Yuzu have bitten the dust, and Nintendo was right to shut them down

Nintendo has a long history of screwing over its fans, whether it's releasing underpowered hardware, suing fan projects, shutting down services older consoles rely on, and constantly re-selling its back catalogue of games to people who have bought these same titles over and over. But where Ryujinx and Yuzu are concerned, it's not hard to see why these projects got shut down.

Quotecompanies like Nintendo shouldn't have to compete with solutions that reverse engineer their products and offer them for free, at least within the active lifecycle of the hardware. In the eyes of the law, emulating games not owned by the player amounts to stealing, and in a world increasingly dominated by digital stores even "ownership" is a loose term.

Cool opinion, but nah.

Crypto keys and firmware are not illegal, as long as one extracts it from their own hardware.
Many that played games on yuzu or ryujinx already owned a switch.

The option to play your games on other hardware is actually really nice. I don't own a switch and I only played 1 switch games (on borrowed hardware), but I have no intention on increasing the amount of devices at home.
If I could buy a switch emulator that's made by Nintendo I would have considered it.

Shutting down these projects was not right in my eyes. Legally there was no grounds, hence it wasn't right. It was a business decision and I find it vastly worrying that the threat of legal action is enough to shut down projects like this even tho the chances to win in court are so slim.

The cost can crush any "competition". This is not a fair legal system.
Can't wait for the EU to designate consoles as gatekeepers.

Lets talk "proprietary format" for a moment - shall we?

There are a number of examples where a company released a product (or series of them) that made use of a "proprietary format" that within weeks/months/years would be 'cracked' and competitors would be offering products that could read/edit/write that format. (Adobe and their "PDF" files comes to mind as ONE example here)

It would be like music & videos being released that can ONLY be played/watched on the studios hardware.

Why should not Nintendo compete against others? Why should not own my games which I paid for to play wherever I want

Their own hardware can be used for piracy so you can choose one, either switch should be banned too and their games should be sold for PC or you accept it is bullshit and still people can play their games wherever they want

For real, fanboys make it hard as f*** to keep buying games, you tell us that we are doing wrong anyways

you said "and in a world increasingly dominated by digital stores even "ownership" is a loose term"

it's better to educate yourself before you write article, to show that you don't have a clue about it.
I really waste my time reading it.

this article was written by a massive bootlicker, how on earth was this actually published lmao

Yuzu, despite receiving tens of thousands of dollars/month, had a library of pirated games. They couldn't escape the lawyers' hands.

As for Ryujinx, I don't know what they did wrong. Emulation itself is not illegal, I think that in this case Nintendo simply abused its economic power to frighten the devs.

piracy is based

being against piracy is being against a free internet. did a tyrant with a corporate bootlicking kink write this? no matter how much you simp for them, Nintendo won't peg you bro.

Ah, i see.

The writer is one of those people who gets off on being wrong and disagreeable.

Nintendo can lick my hairy ***hole. I don't even like or play any of their s**t games and i still see why they're 999% in the wrong here. Duh.
