Linux gaming aficionados will be pleased to note that Valve has entered a collaboration effort with Arch Linux - the foundation for the Steam Deck's SteamOS 3.0 operating system, providing financial backing for two crucial projects that are underway.

"two critical projects that will have a huge impact on our distribution"

so basically while a boost to the distribution of whatever is developed, not a "shot in the arm" of better compatibility or performance.

Many of us long for the day where we can ditch MS and their OS for gaming once and for all.

It's more than that though. From the source post: "This opportunity allows us to address some of the biggest outstanding
challenges we have been facing for a while. The collaboration will
speed-up the progress that would otherwise take much longer for us to
achieve, and will ultimately unblock us from finally pursuing some of
our planned endeavors. We are incredibly grateful for Valve to make this
possible and for their explicit commitment to help and support Arch Linux."

This will speed up everything else too, allowing the volunteers to work on whatever they want, while paid freelance developers tackle these outstanding challenges
