A recent accident with a Tesla Semi truck demonstrated the challenges firefighters face with spontaneously combusting lithium batteries. The effort involved a high-voltage hazard specialist and a thermal scanner.

So much for eco friendly innit? Saving the environment but during accidents it wastes water and causes a nearly inextinguishable fire

QuoteTesla immediately dispatched a high-voltage fire hazard safety specialist who consulted the firefighters to use scanners to monitor battery temperature and air quality at all times.

This feels like some Cyberpunk Future.  WTF is the car manufacturer telling the government what to do to monitor the temperature of its vehicles?  Why does Tesla even have this as an employee?

Maybe Tesla should stick to Powerwalls?  On second hand... let's put a massive, flaming battery in our homes...

So when is driving one of these vehicles into a building going to be considered a terriorist attack? These things seem super deadly, like Timothy McVeigh deadly. They do not belong on the road.

That's because they're using old NMC batteries instead of LFP.

LFP batteries don't burn (or at least not like NMC ones), and solid state batteries (China will start producing them in 2025) are even better and safer than LFP batteries.

So... yup, we'll just have to wait for Tesla to keep up with battery tech.
