The OmniBook Ultra is HP's first notebook based on the brand new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The device offers better features than the OmniBook X with Snapdragon X Elite, including a larger battery, USB 4 and quad speakers.

for web browsing i would choose the snapdragon.
for any other thing, i would choose the amd variant.

I am currently running a temporary setup (my main one is lenovo ideapad gaming 3 4800H which is still fantastic to this day performance wise) a hp pavilion 15 with ryzen 4500U (zen 2 cores, 6 cores without HT). still plenty enough for web browsing, some vmware horizon action, etc, etc. fast, silent

There isn't any reason to buy this over asus zenbook s16. they are around the same price and everything is way better in asus. 78wh vs 68wh battery. oled 120hz vs dim ips screen. 1.5kg in 16" chassis vs 1.57 in 14" chassis. and zenbook s16 starts at even cheaper price. really what hp is smoking is unclear to me !

So, in real-life workload that's what ? 6 hours ?

I currently have an HP Spectre 14 2024, with an advertised battery life of 17 hours.
And I get 5 hours from web-browsing and streaming youtube.

Very good arguments.
It is clear that everyone wants an AMD ZEN 5 but which one to choose, there are still many models to come out and 5 months until BlackFriday, ideal to buy these laptops that are always cheaper and better in performance than Intel ones.
They published in this medium the number of problems that the 13gen and 14gen are having, it is clear that in the last 4 years AMD has been above Intel.

Above Intel... but not manufacturing nearly enough. Searching for laptops with AMD is still not easy.

It's not even close the amount of different models and configurations that laptop brands sell for Intel vs the little amount of models and configurations that they offer with AMD processors (and a lot of times not giving the option of the best parts, with worse screens, batteries, etc. for no reason at all).

HP says:
QuoteBased on HP's internal analysis as of next gen PC's  with a 40-60 TOPS NPU as of (current date). Battery life tested by HP using continuous FHD video playback, 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, 200 nits brightness, system audio level as image default, player audio level at 100%, played full-screen from local storage, headphone attached or through speaker (if no audio jack port), wireless on but not connected. Actual battery life will vary depending on configuration and maximum capacity will naturally decrease with time and usage.

It's low CPU use, mid-range nits, and no wireless connection. Not exactly typical, but at least they aren't putting the brightness to the very lowest setting.

Intel likely has a backroom agreement with HP to get a wider range of processor options when they sell with higher-end parts, versus AMD. HP sells in such volume they are looking at margins and this makes the most sense. Probably not legal/Antitrust. But enough evidence has come out over the years to support it.

Everybody probably loves Snapdragon X coming on the field, because it puts pressure on Intel to lower their prices. The issue is that nobody cares about support for legacy products/devices.
The customer gets screwed, if they are ignorant.

No high PPI, no buy

QuoteThe notebook has a 14-inch IPS panel in 16:10 format with a resolution of 2240 x 1400 pixels and a maximum brightness of 300 nits.
what is this trash? that comes out to an abysmal 188.68 ppi. truly why can't manufacturers make 250 ppi the minimum, let alone no screen should be below 300 ppi in 2024. display tech is vastly more efficient and advanced for the last 10 years yet ppi is still so low in new notebooks and tablets. I have a Surface Book 2 and that screen absolutely spoiled me at 267 ppi so I don't think I could ever settle for anything less than 250 ppi (doubly so as a designer and photographer). that's one thing I will give to Apple, they almost never drop below 250 ppi in their product line.

Trust me bro

Absolutely. Trash. Look me in the eye and tell me that isn't trash. And then look into the mirror and say this isn't trash. Fact check: you can't. Because it's trash. If it doesn't have 500 PPI minimum and least 8000 megapixels display, and 280 Ghz display refresh rate, it's trash. Trust me bro. I tell you. The sooner this realization sinks in your pea-brain, the better.

this unironically. kudos to you if you can stick to 20-year old display specs in 2024 for $1500+, but I'm not that much of a sucker so lol. Progress in tech absolutely has NOT caught up with how much manufacturers are charging.

My dad and his partner still run an LCD from the early 2000s. The screen is washed out and colors are WAY off. There is ghosting and parts of the screen show burn in.

They have absolutely no desire to change the TV. They cannot be convinced to change it, and they're not going to change it. So who am I to suggest otherwise (anymore)
