Nikon Z6 III proves mirrorless camera breakthroughs a thing of the past — why that's okay

Nikon has officially launched the Z6 III, and, while it is certainly a marvellously capable middleweight camera with impressive features, the minor upgrades across the board are indicative of a problem. Digital cameras are no longer advancing in leaps and bounds, as they had in the early days of the mirrorless revolution, but that means there has never been a better time to buy a camera.

How anyone feels about the camera and price aside, I don't find the references to the Amazon price in the article to be a good point of comparison since that isn't the regular MSRP price - it's the price with an additional lens. Specifically, the article compares the Z6 III /w kit lens price to the Z6 II body only. At least compare apples to apples and not compare an apple to a fruit basket. The Z6 III body only $2500 vs Z6 II body only $1600 (discounted from $2000).

Ahh yes the endless "new and improved" that while 'new' is only minor 'improved'.

While competition generally pushes adding an endless stream of features to products there does come a point where none of the additions are 'must have' and inspire current owners to 'upgrade'.

Camera's are not the only market that has seemingly 'topped out' or 'flattened out' when it comes to any real innovation.

Then of course the OEM's like to change their lens mounts every so often to force users to upgrade all their glass as well as the bodies they are mounted on.
