In just a few years, one of the largest power grids in the world has been radically rebuilt to meet the changing requirements of renewable energies. The dimensions appear to be quite manageable.

This is nice and all but comes at a cost... the price of electricity in California is almost 70% higher than the US average.

Not really, be aware that CA includes a lot of other stuff in their electricity cost than just electricity like social programs. Easier to put it in the electric bill than raise taxes.

Then there is the fact that PGE, SDGE and SCE just ripping people off compared to municipal utilities:
