Samsung has announced the latest iteration of EVO Plus and EVO Select microSD cards. These, according to the company, are designed to give mobile devices and handheld gaming consoles the right storage boost. With transfer speeds of up to 160 MB/s, they offer a 23% performance increase over predecessors.

Samsung does NOT even indicate the real minimum recording speed on its marketing sites. We are talking only about reading speed.

And the prefix up to means that not all cards of different capacities even achieve such reading speed. The write speed of a junior 64GB card may differ significantly from the write speed of older cards. So is random access time.

In general, the cards in this series, as hundreds of reviews on marketplaces and retail chains have shown, are extremely unreliable and there are a lot of defects.

Moreover, cards based on 3D TLC are extremely unreliable for long-term data storage, especially photos/videos, which users often forget to transfer to a computer in several backups. They quickly lose reading speed even with minimal wear of nand chips, and after 3-4 years, reading speed, as practice has shown, drops up to 10 times to the point of failure.
