MSI's Prestige 13 AI Evo is an extremely compact and lightweight subnotebook featuring good connectivity options, an OLED panel and a Meteor Lake processor. When it comes to its performance, however, you may have to make a few compromises—plus, the laptop's fan has its work cut out for it.

lmao

i like the fact they are trying, but M3 air at half the power consumption runs geekbench better.
75Wh for 13 inch is huge, that's where its battery life is coming from, not from efficiency.

but overall looks like a nice-ish all-rounder laptop

Thank you for the review!

As a user of this laptop, I wonder whether your test conditions under MSI AI Engine has had a negative impact on its performance. The AI mode (MSI Center version 2.0.32.0) behaves abnormally (it can switch to performance mode when I open a word document, for example). So I would have rather chosen more "traditional" power profiles + the corresponding windows power settings to conduct the test.

Also, MSI rather frequently updates its BIOS. In idle, this device now does not ramp up its fan as much as it used to.

Thanks for this review! It was the most professional review I found about this little laptop.

I was searching for a lightweight laptop to run Linux with minimum 32 GB RAM. MSI Prestige 13 AI checked all boxes I was looking for, but I was worried about its support under Linux having relatively new components in it.

Finally I made the purchase, and it runs well for me: everything works I tested (e.g. WiFi, Audio, Power profiles, even fingerprint reader) out of the Box on Ubuntu 24.04 (6.8.0-35-generic). Fan noise is not audible for me, I always run on Power Saver profile which is all good for my use case (vscode, flutter, browsing).

Battery tests (with xnee mouse circling) shows 11:15 runtime with WiFi on.
I used the machine on a 10 hours flight most of the time (same usage profile as mentioned above) and the capacity remained is ~30%.
On suspend it would stay on for ~25 hours starting from 100%.

Two notes:
- Initially WiFi stopped working after waking up from suspends. Fixed by few lines script after little googling.
- Mute Mic works (F5 key), but LED indicator is not.
