With AI-centric devices already here, and the first AI-centric smartphone concepts already being promoted at CES 2024 this past week, how long will Apple be able to maintain its iPhone status-quo?

lmao

no one really wants to talk to their phones instead of tapping the screen.
users don't really want ai stuff using battery and listening to them all the time.
"ai-centric" is a gimmick, in the end all those ai functions will just be apps

Author should look into open source more. It's what drives things.
The core of this generation of "AI" is already here, not AGI but context and synthesis. Centralized AI is the wrong path except as part of federation, but individual ability will greatly increase when decent AI is a normal feature on every device.

lmao

vice versa, opensource is lagging behind commercial solutions by about a year.
and usually it's a sideways movement until some corp releases their outdated model, everything you see today in open source is based on a big corp releases, eg llama from meta etc

but that's actually okay, average open source joe hardware is 2-3yrs older than what corps can get today, so rushing ahead of them is impossible strategy
