Producing microLED displays in larger diagonals still poses a major challenge. There is still a lot of research work to be done, especially for the mass market. Nevertheless, laptops and monitors may well be utilizing self-illuminating technology in a decade's time.

Very sad news. So apparently I won't wait for microLED; I won't have time to see it in regular monitors and laptops. And in the end it turns out that they were waiting for a technology that would end up with the same problems as AMOLED...

Everything is approximately the same as with high-capacity batteries, with a large number of recharge cycles. Dreams remain dreams. Just like deep space for humanity...

If you're fortunate enough to have a blank windowless wall across your bed, you don't need no fancy display technology. I used to watch everything on my laptop screen until I went and bought a wall projector (and accompanying blackout curtains so I can use the projector all the time during the day time)..

Projectors, except for rare top models, have absolutely lousy native contrast (ANSI), only on/off can be good for reflective LCD matrices, such as JVC/Sony models.
Compared to microLED/AMOLED, projectors stand no chance when it comes to black levels in scenes. Typical on/off on commercial projectors in cinemas is 2000-3000:1, no more.

Home projectors have 2 key advantages compared to TVs - a huge screen (which few people can afford) and 3D support, which was previously deliberately cut out from almost all mass TVs.

Well, we must take into account that all movies in film studios are produced in reflected light on projectors (3xDLP) and the picture obtained in reflected light is much more natural and pleasing to the eye than the picture of a luminous LCD/AMOLED TV panel.

1xDLP (and they are always cheaper) have the best ANSI contrast among projectors and better dynamics processing, but they have an eternal problem with rainbows (flickering) on moving high-contrast objects.

I've had projectors for a very long time, more than 15 years, but now it's all covered in dust, because...there was simply nothing to watch (and of course, we have aged a lot; cinema has gone beyond our interests because it is aimed mainly at young, still naive people). We don't watch TV series, and everything about cinema has become so rotten and pretentious, especially after 2020, that there is no desire to even turn on the projector, because... it immediately turns off in the first minutes of viewing in most cases. Except occasionally for some concert that you can't watch live.

Projectors are not suitable for games (who are interested) because... The input lag is very high, especially in those models (cinema), where the picture is really impressive in complete darkness...
