Popular YouTuber @Mrwhosetheboss has singled out the Google Tensor G3 as a major failing of the Pixel 8 Pro. According to the YouTuber, all of the new generative AI features found on the Pixel 8 Pro cannot be processed onboard the device, but need to be off-loaded to the cloud for processing, despite Google pitching the device as being "AI-first."

The Pixel 7 Pro feels faster than the S23 Ultra, let's not even talk about the G3.
Google runs proprietary AI models, G3 is optimized to run these models fast and efficiently.  Qualcomm cannot do this, Qualcomm makes general computing hardware not specific nothing custom.

This article is misleading, and a shameful representation of your website and the content you guys are capable of releasing. It feels desperate and more like click bait than professional writing, as well as biased. Regarding the benchmarks being blocked, I can confirm that they didn't work even before the pixel 8 was released, as my device was spoofed to a pixel 8 before they even were available for sale. The most likely reason for this is because these apps must be certain they can accurately measure a devices performance in several categories, and when a more advanced chip comes out without complete knowledge of it's workings, the likelihood of these apps malfunctioning or not running at  all in increases a considerable amount.

It is interesting that my pixel 7 pro is doing voice to text with the internet off to write this comment. Seems like the article indicates that the pixel 8 pro can't do this. How odd?! I'll have to turn the internet and Wi-Fi back on in order to actually post this reply. Also, I can do editing on my Pixel 7 pro and use magic eraser without having the internet. Is this article asserting that the tensor gen 3 is less powerful than the tensor Gen 2. Seems unlikely to me.

The P8P can. The article says it offloads the _new_ generative AI features (e.g. magic editor) which I can confirm (well, P8 and not P8P, but it's the same chip).

Total utter garbage of an article. There are several dozen different features on the pixel 8 and previous pixel series that use AI and process it on chip only. All the call screening features, the wait on hold feature, the instant translation, instant voice to text of any audio playing on the device, the under rated but incredible Recorder app, 90+% of the photography features, I could go on and on.

And let's be clear, the day after the release. The main pixel manager confirmed in interviews that those two features use the cloud to process them. They never hid that fact and were open of it from the very beginning. (There were several articles wondering why they couldn't put those features on the pixe 8 or any other Pixel, if they rely on cloud based computation. which is a valid question, but has a very obvious answer. But from the quality of this article I'm not sure you guys would be able to make the logical leap, hence this garbage article)

Trying to equate using 2 (actually 3) extremely high processor intensive services, that no CPU could do, but openly uses cloud computation in under 20 seconds, then means the G3 is all of the sudden not able to run the dozens of on device only AI services Pixels offer, that you conveniently didn't mention.

Your assertions are not only patently wrong and way behind the news cycle times,but so disingenuous that you are either entirely ignorant or willfully playing at being so. You decide which is worse.

And since you guys don't know how to be thorough or have any idea what you're talking about, the HDR+ video proccesing (not just one single photo, but entire 4k video), also uses the cloud to process it. There's no CPU in existence that could process that amount of data for HDR video with minimal processing time. And once again they explained this several times right after launch.

Cheese and rice, you all should be ashamed for peddling this rage bait low IQ garbage.

Despite all the Google fanboys going crazy, the proof is in the pudding.

They're basically selling next level photo editor applications as if they were features of the phone itself. That is misleading. The phone can't do it, the app can and you need to be connected to the internet before the app can even do that.

IMO Google did a good job trying to explain the different features that are on-device vs off-device, but with so many features there's inevitably going to be some confusion
AFAIK here's some on-device vs off-device features using generative AI:

• The new updated Magic Eraser is on-device and features generative AI, but note that Magic Editor is different and off-device
• And Recorder will be able to provide summaries using generative AI done on-device, but note that Google Assistant with Bard's summary feature will be off-device
• Zoom Enhance will be on-device and feature generative AI, but note that Video Boost with Night Sight Video will be off-device
• Gboard's updated Smart Reply will be on-device and feature generative AI, but note that Gboard's new updated proofread is off-device

i'm sorry, but since when has generative AI been able to run on such a device? it requires extremely powerful hardware to get anything done. it would take too long for such tasks to run on your phone. it is slow even on the best PCs.

On-Device is as hollow a misnomer as MrWhosetheBoss(WTF is misuse of whose even supposed to mean??) This is your go-to dude for understanding the nuance of Tensor powered ML LLM,NLP,FEW SHOT,ZERO SHOT,NO PROMPT DRAFT, CURATE, UPDATE AND UPLOAD-OUTPUT processing to the cloud and back in a few seconds? What's my point: Non uninstallable bloatware is On-Device SOC maintained programming. The question is DOES IT WORK? AND WHOSE CLOUD IS IT USING? It's not the use a DATA PLAN that should be of topic it's the PLAN FOR THE DATASET THAT MATTERS. Because you have bad taste. I WOULD NOT want you planting in my nimbus.
