Tesla has started notifying some of its customers that their newly bought cars will be delivered with less than 50% charge 'due to a new industry policy.' As it started transporting more vehicles by sea, Tesla may now have to comply with maritime EV shipping regulations for 20%-50% maximum charge on board.

I am a bit confused by this, in general lithium ion batteries are usually half charged as keeping them 100% charged for a long time isn't good for them. So usually they would ship things half charged, then prior to delivery the dealer would fill them up to full prior to delivery. Unless due to the no contact stuff after covid people just pick up their cars directly from the docks?
