I really don't understand why there would be a pwm flicker on a lcd display, and with a pwm frequency that would have been particularly low even for an oled.

I have this Pad myself, and I tried looking at the screen thru my phone's camera app set at 1/4000 shutter speed, and I couldn't see any flicker on either the OnePus Pad or my iPad Pro M1 11 which also features an lcd screen.

I wonder how one would get to the bottom of this.

can you trust these reviews?
I wonder. They mention no pwm used and then a bit lower they say 60Hz flickering probably pwm? what is it reviewer?
You NEVER get a reply from these people.
I found out the 'flickering' is ...temporal dithering.
Its an 8 bit color tablet and by 'switching' they simulate 10 bit color.....
But this can causes headaches, eye strain etc just like pwm.
I found out the latest ipad air and pro also use this on their tft/ips screens....
