The main problem of this laptop in this reincarnation is the danger of burning the screen (I already warned about this earlier for the Alder Lake series) - the critical temperature of the LP170WQ1-SPF2 panel is 50C, and the exhaust it is 52C+. I would advise you to immediately buy at least a 3 year warranty, and preferably a 4 year one..
The second problem from here is even - when running on battery power, laptops on Alder Lake become very slow, because TDP drops sharply in PL1/PL2 mode. Here again, AMD versions rule.
Well, the laptop is very noisy in operation, which of course does not add comfort. AMD is always quieter.
Well, for a snack (we drive in a stake), immediately saw the same key drawback in terms of carrying this laptop, like the Acer Aspire 2022 series - if you look at the photo inside both models, you will see this - some of the ports are connected by a long cable almost a stretch. With the slightest bending of the laptop (and frequent vibrations, accidental bumps), this cable can either break or pop out of the connectors. This is a very dangerous decision if the buyer is clearly taking the laptop on the road. And in the case of the «Gram» series, this is exactly the case...
If we consider it as a laptop purely for dragging around the rooms and very rarely and carefully move somewhere along the street, then why do I, as a buyer, need light weight? Quietness and comfort in work are more important to home laptop. This means that radiators are 500g (minimum) heavier. And the coolers are larger in diameter (which means lower speed).
Next problem - I'll emphasize the moronic new trend - to power the laptop only from usb-c, which sticks out to the side, and on one side (in this case, both on the left). Breaking this plug with your feet, reclining on a sofa/bed with such a laptop, is simply right-handed if it wants to get consistently high speed from psu and not depend on the battery time and cpu speed.
At the Acer Aspire 5 2022, the R&D folks thought of that - and added a corner power connector on the left. In the HP G8 85x series too. Obviously, no one here thought about anything.
Let me also remind you that Intel itself RECOMMENDED installing usb-c with TB4 on BOTH sides of the laptop, specially designing the TB4 hub SO that it would be CONVENIENT for laptop manufacturers to distribute the usb-c port with them on both sides symmetrically! But these folks from LG R&D are deliberately ignoring the recommendations of Intel architects, who are clearly smarter than them...
As a result, I do not understand the target audience of this laptop.
On the road - it is too fragile. For home using - too noisy (and slow for the price) and can burn the screen modern 2.5k panel (with critical temperature only up to 50C) under high load from the PSU.
LG needs to change the strength of the motherboard inside, making a monolithic whole, fixed at least on a thin magnesium frame. Secure the ports with brackets. But then the weight will grow ... and the "miracles" with him will immediately end. And change the exhaust cooling system to low temperature limit panel. And also reduce noise, for example, by putting liquid metal as a thermal interface. If we are talking about a laptop on the road. Or LG should come up with a new line for the home similar to Gram, but without weight restrictions, with a larger set of interfaces (including rj45 2.5Gbps +) and with a better tactile keyboard (greater key travel and pressure)
The laptop is designed purely for the first impression, but not as a thoughtful purchase. Something like the Acer Aspire 5 2022. Which seems like a good idea (especially the 17.3 version, in which the marketing fools didn't put at least a 2.5k panel, but rather 4k@120-144Hz), but the real execution inside and out destroys the idea in the bud...
I have already described in another thread my expectations (and millions of people (I can bet that sales of such a model at an adequate price below $2000 will immediately exceed tens of millions on the planet) who need a universal 17.3"-18" laptop at home): notebookchat.com/index .php?topic=165403.0#msg523134
