The 175 W mobile GeForce RTX 4090 is impressive considering the form factor, but it doesn't hold a candle against its 450 W desktop counterpart. Early benchmarks show the mobile version running up to 35 to 45 percent slower than a proper 4090 desktop card.

Laptops were always power constrained. That's the point. So it's the other way around - not laptops became more minutes but desktop hardware has suffered from extreme power usage inflation. In the last 4-5 years we saw power consumption in the enthusiast class CPUs and GPUs double. This is unsustainable and anti-consumer and we should hold the companies accountable. Otherwise we could be heading in for a bad crash.

Anybody who looks on these results can clearly see the mobile rtx 4090 is on par with the desktop 4070 ti. Every 3D Mark test have same or almost same scores. Is this some copy-paste bullshit?

The mobile version of the 4090 is actually slightly faster than the desktop 3080Ti. People who buy a mobile 4090 as part of a laptop are essentially getting 2 year old technology from desktops.


For the same money that is asked for "gaming" laptops with 4090, you can easily buy a desktop kit with 4090, which will be 1.5 times faster and at the same time much quieter. And completely silent when the load is only on the processor outside of games and 3D calculations/modeling, and at the same time it will not have any problem changing desktop 4090 in the future to a conditional "5090" selling the old 4090 separately...

Frankly, this intentional consumer deception with naming should be regulated.
Or it could be measured and reported by gaming oriented community. In as simple fashion as possible.

Just list all nvidia desktop cards, and place all nvidia mobile cards next to comparable desktop performance. Including all power settings. For example RTX4070 mobile with 70%power and RTX4060 mobile with 100%power can be compared with rtx4050 desktop.

If nvidia is deceptive about it, notebookcheck should not be.
Just expose them.
