The new OnePlus Software Maintenance Schedule is not all it is cracked up to be

OnePlus has announced several changes for OxygenOS, its custom version of Android. As expected, OxygenOS and Oppo's ColorOS will merge, but this coalescence will yield a few advantages, apparently. However, it seems that OnePlus has forgotten that it used to release three OS updates to its devices. The company has not addressed the lackadaisical approach it currently takes to releasing OS and security patch updates, either.

OnePlus has, for a long time, taken the stance of 2 major OS updates for their phones. Like the OnePlus 5T. It was only guaranteed 2 IS updates. It eventually got 3 though. The third was not promised and was, of course, later than everyone hoped.

This news is guaranteeing 3 OS updates. One more than what they previously offered.

Oneplus 7t wich i unfortunately possess, had a horrendous 11 android release in march. Then we had two updates, both full of bugs, nothing more than a beta. So here we are in july, and there is no stable OS released since january, meaning also, that there are no recent security patches. So please stop praising this company, this article is misleading. The truth is sad, Oneplus stoped giving a damn about proper OS updates. Now with all the news about os merger, it begins to fall into place.

Have you read the article correctly? It doesn't say anything about "praising" OnePlus.

I agree with the opinion. Maybe OnePlus should outsource to community instead to give faster and better support. Give everything related to it's kernel, open the features codes, and let community do the rest. It will be needed to run on unlocked bootloader phone of course, not everyone will agree. But it's better than having old OS with outdated security patches.
