LG has officially exited the smartphone business for good

LG Electronics has officially shut down its smartphone division, with its closure date set for July 31. Existing LG smartphones and peripherals will be available for purchase via regular channels until stocks last. Software support for eligible devices will remain unhindered too.

Was not lucky enough. No commitment in support and no real direction gets you this. Still better than the Chinese brands. Will miss the headphone jack but won't miss nearly everything else about LG phones.

As a very satisfied LG user this is disappointing but not surprising with the modern markets reaching saturation. There is also little room left to innovate now. The LG use of high quality DAC's and the ability of their headphone jack to push high end, audiophile headphones was a major plus. Unfortunately, this is not a major differentiation in modern phones. I found them durable, easy to use and reliable. The only hassle was finding high quality replacement cases as the device aged.

Lol please, not a chance. LG has shown that they can make a competitively-priced flagship phone. Take the case of the V60 - when it was launched last year, it cost $799 in the USA. By contrast, the cheapest Samsung Galaxy S20 5G was a whopping $200 more expensive than the V60, and it doesn't have a 3.5mm audio jack with Quad DAC and dual-screen support for crying out loud! Heck, even the V60 with the bundled optional DualScreen case is still $100 than the chepest S20 5G. "Good riddance" my backside!

I definitely do hope that LG Mobile can make a strong comeback sometime in the future with better software support alongside more widespread marketing and region availability. It feels so wrong for LG to close its smartphone division considering how much innovation LG has made for smartphones in general. The V50 with its DualScreen case formed my first love with LG, and I'm not regretting buying one.

At least I'm still glad that Sony and ASUS finally return the super useful 3.5mm audio jack. Also, from some sources that I read, apparently, the latest ASUS ROG Phone 5 has the same DAC hardware that LG use on their V series phones. So that is worth checking out.
