Asus ROG Flow X13 in review: Gaming convertible with an AMD Ryzen 9 5980H and an optional RTX 3080

The Asus Flow X13 is an ultra-compact 13-inch convertible with a high-resolution display. With the optional display dock, equipped with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 GPU, the Flow X13, together with the AMD Ryzen 9 5980H CPU integrated into the laptop, would theoretically even make desktop computers look old. Due to the lack of availability, we will only review the Flow X13 without the eGPU for now.

The battery life could've been better.
The concept is nice, but I think removing the 1650 would've been better. It would have made the battery life better. Maybe make it the portable eGPU, in a compact size. And make a dekstop dock with a full sized PCI-e slot, so it doesn't become obsolete.

Although not perfect, this laptop is truly innovative and shows what can be done when manufacturers make an effort instead of rehashing their same old designs and chips to customers. This should be something from Razer, but their complete lack of AMD's class leading options is starting to tell as they religiously stick to Intel and get left behind in the new era of AMD/TSMC dominance.

Would of loved to see the eGPU tested too.
It's a bit strange ASUS would send you this laptop without it since that's a huge selling point for this laptop.

As a 8TB M.2 SSD owner, the 2230 is a bit disappointing.
At least I'm glad Asus used both HDMI 2.0b and USB-C 20Gbps. Those two ports together on a lightweight ultrabook is still rare in 2021.

And MPP 2.0 is a huge improvement from the previous ZenBook Flip convertibles with first-gen N-Trig. This is nice to see.
Seeing those thermals, there really should have been a R5-5600HS processor option.

Yes, MPP2 is nice to see.
If this had a R5 option I'd probably put it on my list. It has everything I need apart from the battery life, but that might be better with an R5. Also if it had an iGPU only.
For my university things it would be perfect. Ample computing power and a screen supporting an active pen.

If this had a R5 option I'd probably put it on my list. It has everything I need apart from the battery life, but that might be better with an R5. Also if it had an iGPU only.

I feel similarly - a pretty-much identical device no dGPU and using the freed-up space for another m.2 slot (80mm ideally) would be an absolute peach. Offer the dock with a 3060 inside and you'd have something really neat for people who want to work on the go and game at home on one portable system, but can't blow $3000 on the whole thing.

This would be awesome.
Aslo maybe add at least a Cinebench run on different power plan settings. I just back a X13 Yoga, because the perforamnce was super bad an anything but max performance.

This is considerably worse than the Blade Stealth 13 Tiger Lake... Well I guess you can't expect too much more when this is more of an experimental product in all reality. Maybe the 2nd iteration will be better.
