The GPD Win Max is an ambitious but oversized mess

The GPD Win Max has been in development for a while now, with leaked images of the device first appearing online almost a year ago. GPD has overhauled the Win Max since then, and while its Ice Lake processor and bevvy of ports are impressive, its unwieldy size is not. Best of luck using the device's built-in controllers, folks.

Hopefully it's light enough for handheld, even Nintendo Swtich, I find it bit too heavy for long term game play.

What?

The GPD Win Max isn't the one with Tigerlake-Y. If you go back to the Notebookcheck's own link, you'll see Tigerlake-Y is for a separate product called One-GX.

Come on guys!

My bad, I don't know how I missed that.

Thanks for the spot!

At least the article was titled "Opinion", more appropriate might have been "Millennial Tantrum"... With no specifications, it's would be difficult for even the best reviewer to arrive at an honest, objective opinion.

Considering the power, and thermal envelope a device with the performance specifications and features will require, the use case, and that an enormous share of users of hand held gaming devices since the PSP including the GPD Win have complained about "too small" -- the size looks nearly ideal.

As well the design and layout are far from being a "mess", the design offers clean, understated form that follows function and again look nearly ideal for a device of this proximate size and what many hand held Gamers have been asking for in various GPD venues since get-go...

This opinion piece seems more like a pet wish tantrum, and uninformed hit piece than useful news for a device no one has actually seen, held, or used..

KZBFF ELF makes a good point about weight, all the new performant hand helds are on the hefty side for long term gaming -- but maybe that's a good thing for a generation that spends too much time nose in device and having bizarre, unifmromed melt downs.

Wouldn't call it a mess.  I see great potential in this device, especially its form factor.  Considering phones have the horsepower to act as a desktop replacement but don't (for some reason the market sees fit to remove functionality from each iteration of smartphone) it's nice to see something in this form factor that has not only periphery, but a thunderbolt 3 port for external GPUs.

This is the kind of device I'd carry around with me to a friend's house, or to get work done on the go, I don't see myself dedicating it to gaming, but instead, to on-the-go workloads with the confidence that I can play games in my down time.

It's a "mess" if you're a child, sure, but I'd like to see the market continue with this trend of smaller, high-power, portable Windows machines.  especially ones where I can actually upgrade the components.

Now, if you want to talk about a "mess" I consider every Surface Pro a "mess" in that you can't even remove the hard drive without literally destroying the device.

My boyfriend has one of these and it crashes every 5 minutes during gamesplay. This thing can't even handle simple games such as Team Fortress 2. Do not buy!!!

I just have to laugh, most of these comments come from those who have not used it. This article is also a joke, 'good luck using the controllers'.. I'm 6'3" and larger hands than most and it's fine, an international discord with hundreds of people actively developing software improvements, mods and support for your gaming. I recommend instead of this article, watch a YouTube review as this is not on point nor is the first post, a second hand user who hasn't used it haha. I got mine on indigo, it's fantastic, plays ps3 emulation, Wii U, and below. Recommend watching an honest reviewer like phawx on YouTube as this is a very inaccurate review from someone who presents little tech knowledge or skills. If your like the several thousand who bought one or want to buy one, join discord and you can have your experience expand.
