AMD has finally agreed on a settlement for the false advertising of its Bulldozer and Piledriver processors, after eight years of litigation. Claimants will be eligible to draw from a pot of up to US$12.1 million, but there are certain caveats including from where you bought the processor and which SKU you bought.

Finally, those poor class action lawyers will get their millions. Cause from experience, that is pretty much what class action lawsuits are. The lawyers get more than everyone else combined (while claiming that they got only 10%, but funny how that works isn't 10% of what clients get but 10% of maximum and only 1-2% will ever claim it so they get more than everyone combined) and will backstab their clients at a moments notice.

A class action lawyer doesn't have to get approval from their clients like most lawyers. So they tend to work out backroom deals when they settle where they will insure the company pays as little as possible while covering their incomes.

AMD's willingness to settle quickly is certainly an admission to deceiving the public about their "native 8-core" CPU advertisements. Additionally that 12.1 million payout may look like a chump charge but it is way much more than lawyers' fees. The sign that AMD rather willing to depart with 12.1 million while deciding not to contend the litigation very much shows AMD knows it will lose the case with subsequently much bigger payout.
