Our first Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7 benchmarks are in and they outgun the AMD Ryzen 7 3700U

AMD has reasons to worry. Intel Ice Lake represents the biggest leap in performance for the Core U series since Kaby Lake-R in 2017. Our preliminary numbers reveal significant GPU gains over the old UHD Graphics 620 while maintaining a 15 W envelope. Meanwhile, the higher-end 25 W Core i7-1065G7 will be even faster than the Zen+ Ryzen 7 3700U on all tested accounts.

Intel's advertisement budget works great! A whole new article on 520-Cinebench-points CPU that's not even released yet.
Comparison with AMD is smart, because it would totally lose comparing to current Intel processors with higher power draws in actual laptops.

Improved graphics is a step in the right direction, but they have not updated it since the release of HD 620...

This is actually pretty great. Unlike desktops, we don't look at the chip only. We look at the platform as a whole.

Icelake will enable laptops with better battery life and/or designs. The range of choices will improve because as a whole the platform will be better, enabled by the improvements brought on by Icelake.

So...all numbers based on an undisclosed pre-retail platform, without power consumption numbers...that basically says nothing. This has zero real world implication.

By the time when this cpu comes out, amd will also have zen2 mobile package... That is where the fight will be.

Why no Whiskey lake (xx45u or xx65u) numbers, is it because it'll show this is not such a big/great upgrade for current Intel users?

yeach atm we have comparison of 12nm ( amd's 14nm+) to 10nm of intel which have almost the same transistor density as 7nm amd

So lets see how they will look when zen2 mobile will comes :)

Sadly idk why amd wait with mobiles chips... the mobile market is the one they rly need .

So a 25w TDP processor is 44% faster than a 15w TDP chip. Okay? That's not that impressive to be fair, as that's a 60% increase in TDP.

That being known, what's the hype? Besides, we all know that Intel TDP is not the same as AMD TDP. Intel is using the base clocks of the CPU to calculate that TDP. AMD is listing the highest possible TDP their CPUs can draw at boost, so Ryzen is infinitely better in literally every way given that information.

Let's not forget that the 8th and 9th gen U processors are already running 25 W and above in the likes of the T series used for this comparison. Xiaomi even had a U processor running perfectly at 45 W and all core 4 ghz before a bios fix slowed it down. We got power with the 8th gen, now the efficiency is more interesting. I'm more interested in if the Y processors have enough power at 10 to 15 W. Or maybe it will run at 25 W in reality.

I do appreciate these benchmarks, and they show no CPU improvements. Of course the whole point of ultrabooks is battery life, and I guess we will have to wait until next year to know that.

#8 - In laptops, the real power draw does not depend on TDP for either Intel or AMD. The laptop manufactures set the actual power draw in the BIOS, and they can even set undervolting. So the performance depends on the whole laptop, not just the CPU.

So many good points by the others:

But the limitations/restrictions Intel placed on the reviewers tell the true story:

"Intel had some limitations as to what kinds of tests we were allowed to run on these early Ice Lake machines. We are therefore unable to provide a few of our usual measurements like power consumption, temperature, and battery life until proper retail units become available. "

--> This tells us that Intel is just desperate. They've been dragged through the gutter by the Zen 2 desktop CPUs totally destroying anything they have either now or in the pipeline.

The closest thing they have are these Ice Lake or whatever lake VAPOURWARE, which being 10nm, is still not ready until year end. So why conveniently announce them now? When your products are crap, the marketing department has to work overtime to try to compensate!

They just have to paint to their shareholders and customers the illusion that they have something/anything, whatever! What do you expect when they don't even dare to reveal the power consumption! Which likely will be very high!

Whatever, AMD's 7nm Zen 2 Renoir APUs with 7nm Navi integrated GPUs will be out around Oct/Nov. We'll see then!

One more thing: Ice Lake isn't out yet. The first notebook with Ice Lake has been delayed again, "with no re-revise date in sight":

I hope we don't see a repeat of Cannon Lake. It would be ironic if AMD's "Zen 3 + Navi" notebook APU came out before Ice Lake.

Oh wow, Intel pumps out an underwhelming 15w cpu after 18 months of delays or more. Big whoop.

Wow, look at those 15W game tests. The most stressful ones like Witcher3 the Gen11 is pulverizing Vega. SOTR is still a bridge too far for iGPUs. If Intel can optimize their drivers better then may see more extra fps in all those games. Maybe even SOTR can be playable.
