To InfinityEdge and beyond. Dell dauntlessly doubles down on its InfinityEdge design and the race for an even thinner Ultrabook. The end result is a noticeably smaller and more visually attractive offering that doesn't do much else significantly better or worse than the last generation XPS 13.

Great review!
I waited for this but with all the cons it feels like Dell just wanted a shower.
No new keyboard (the new 2in1 gets it), slow response times, soldered RAM, shorter battery life. All just for a smaller device.

I wanted to develop and play with it (connecting to a eGPU) but with a heavy price tag for 16GB RAM it kinda feels like a rip off.

Still can't figure out why Dell set configurations in that way that forces us to pay a huge premium to get 16GB of ram. Chrome and some productivity tools easily runs out 8GB.
The much shorter battery life just for slimmer (and not even a lot lighter) also makes no sense at all.

Do you think the high cpu temperatures harm the lifespan of the xps 13?  It gets up to 93°+. This is a major concern of mine.

I've bought this recently and I have no complains whatsoever. I've got the 16G, i7, 4k display, the Linux edition.

The keyboard is different though. Not only does it now have dedicated PgUp/PgDown keys but also hase much better feedback. It's still shallow but it's definitely an improvement over the previous iteration. I am comparing it to the Precsion 5520.

One small problem for me is that the fans turn on and off too late and I am sure that if this can be configured, even more performance can be squeezed from this little beast. Turning off too late is also very strange as there is absolutely no need to further cool down the processor from some point on.

My machine does not experience any coil whine. This was a very important purchase factor as my Precision from work does have this annoying noise and it is driving me crazy, and as my previous XPS from 2014 did have it as well.

What else, the display is gorgeous and I'd place it equally to the Macbook Pro. Compared to the Precision... well the Precision display is in a league of its own.
