Review Asus Transformer Book T100TA-C1-GR Convertible

4 x Atom. Bay Trail-T is supposed to eradicate the performance disadvantages of its predecessors. It wants to do this with a CPU Turbo and now four cores, but is that enough for the right balance of battery runtimes and reasonable Windows performance?

Bringing the A6-1450 so many times is pointless.

It gives you less than half the battery runtime, it gives you more heat, more weigh and a bloody fan. Bay Trail isn't a performance CPU, it's a fanless tablet 'good enough' CPU.

In fact, A6-1450 is a 15W design. Compare it to a Haswell 15W design and you get thrice the power. And still more battery life.

People won't buy subnotebooks or tablets thinking in absolute performance. Performance per watt is king here and that being the case, Temash's 2009 notebook battery runtimes shouldn't even be a contender here.

I find other resources that state the T100TA-B1 has only 32GB while the T100TA-C1 has 64GB. What am I missing?

Best option could be to buy a faster version 32GB+HDD, replace HDD with SSD and use HDD as ext. backup. SSD read/write is cca 2x eMMC, but much faster then HDD. Following, with cca 80 Eur additional costs (128GB SSD) the storage problem is solved and the overall performance is very responsive. Secondly, I'd like to mention that all(!) 8 inch tablets (Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer, Asus) are difficult to use as desktop replacements since they have just one usb port simultaneously used for powering (unfortunately, a separate power connector is missing and docking is troublesome). Only Toshiba/Acer has available hdmi, only Lenovo usb 3.0, and of course, without keyboard and docking. Moreover, desktop work on 8 inch tablet is quite stressing. If we assume comparable weights of 10 inch(550g) and 8 inch(450g) tablets, then Asus T100 is very versatile and cheap option on the market. Thank you, Asus :)

I use this device heavily as as my daily desktop (hooked up to monitor and peripherals), I run emulators and multiple chrome sessions and have to say it's my favorite device for such daily usage even compared to some gaming laptops (I'm using the 64gb version).
With the boot time of like 3-7 seconds and the battery life of about 7-12 hours it's seriously good value for the price. Not to mention how great it looks to carry around considering it's ultra portable size!

WiFi speeds are great compared to laptops, (I found you don't want to update the wifi driver as an update and have disabled asus updates as that caused issues with holding connections). Windows 8.1 also runs flawlessly for me. Just couldn't virtualise os x on it yet but still trying.
Minor points:
- Wish screen could tilt back further.
- Would like to have tried the one with the additional hdd in keyboard dock replacing that hdd for an ssd. Would also like to put the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 through its paces next.

Overall highly recommended for the price, look, performance and portability.

This product is by far the WORST computing device I have ever purchased. It sounds goo with all the specs and the touch screen with a detachable keyboard all while running windows 8. However, do not think you'll be able to take notes on this device as the screen does not detect any stylus what so ever. It is full of glitches and constantly needs to be rebooted to function properly in the middle of a job. A classmate of mine also bought this device and had more problems than I did. I have now had it for 6 months and am already in the market for a new laptop and my classmate has already purchased a microsoft surface. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS DEVICE. I have regretted it every day since I bought it.

My ASUS t100ta has failed completely after two years of running.

for the price that isn't really too bad.

but I am unable to clear it 64 GB storage so will have to try to tear it apart before I recycle it.
