Review Lenovo G500s-59367693 Notebook

Cheap office notebook. The new models of the Lenovo G500s series are notably slimmer than models of previous series. The specs of our test sample are alright: Pentium processor, 500 GB hard drive, Windows 8, 399 Euro. The test uncovers whether only the case was scaled down or if the user has to live with other cutbacks.

Bought this laptop (Core i3, Nvidia GT 720M 2GB, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD) one week ago. But returned within 2 days. Too much heat in the touchpad and right-side of touchpad. Forget about high load, the heat builds up right after startup.  >:( May be an isolated issue though. But I noticed some other issues too! The keyboard. Keys are flat and loose. Looks like the keys were made for casual use or kids. My work involves lots of typing (coding). The spacebar and several other keys often misses while typing!  :-[ The battery is disappointingly weak. Non-standard Ethernet port, cable disconnects of slight movement.

My 5 year old Thinkpad works much better than this one (in terms of heat, keyboard and battery)  :). Plus points of G500s: Attractive design and good configuration.

You people never give anything a good review. Give me a break. I have the Lenovo G500s laptop with the i5 processer, 8G or Ram and 1TB drive and it works amazing.  I purchased it at Staples for $499us. I even do video editing. So You people need to be more serious with your reviews. You guys hate every cheap laptop.

 >:(   I bought the G500 touch. 5 days after buying it the screen cracked after I touched it. Basically the screen was jumping around as if I was grabbing it all over, it seems the glass was bent inwards. I then tapped it... it is a touch screen... and the screen cracked. The glass must have been under tension. No miss use on my side. I then spent three days being passed between the shop where I bought it and Lenovo. Finally Lenovo agreed to repair for free... but will not give m a new machine. Over all a very annoying and frustrating experience.

Bought this laptop but had to send it in for repairs, when it came back the problem still occured. It was the ven making vacuum cleaner noise every time it entered sleep mode or suspend. Had to do with wrong powering because taking out or plugging in the power cord would sometimes stop it. Then I edited the bios to boot from legacy but it's stuck at a bootloader withouth acces to bios or other boot devices. Can't find the CMOS too.

I have had a g500s for more than a year now and i am very happy with it. I'm a heavy gamer and it can actually handle a lot. Not games like battlefield 4, bit Crysis 2 works fine with everything maxed out. Keyboard is fine, even though it would be better if it was a backlit keyboard. Touchpad is nice and big, display is good, and price for all this is amazing. I live in a very hot and humid country, and its endurance couldn't be better. My battery holds for around 5 hours regular usage.

I bought this laptop with Core i3, Nvidia GT 720M, 4GB and without operating system. It cost only 399€ ($517) in Estonia, but for that price it is a very powerful computer. Normally, for that or even way higher price, you can get only Intel integrated graphics card or some weak Radeon card, but this computer lets you to play most of the latest games. With Core i3 and 4GB ram, there is only few things you can not do with this computer. In Addition, while using it, you can feel that computer is strong (which is not very common these days), especially the hinges. Keyboard and touchpad are comfort to use, numpad keys and function keys instead of f-keys were pleasent surprise, at least for me.

But there is some problems too. Firstly, I expected a bit longer battery  life than 4 hours and secondly, there is some overheating problem (like all computers with Geforce 7xx series GPU). While playing Mafia II, the GPU temperature can reach up to 90 degrees Celsius, which can harm the motherboard. But if you buy a cheap cooling pad and remove the bottom part of case, the problem is solved (GPU temperature never reaches 50 degrees). Otherwise, the cooling pad does not help, because there is no air hole in case near GPU.

If you don't see the overheating and 4 hour battery lifa a big problem, this computer is highly recommended.
