Sony has revealed the state of its PlayStation division in a new earnings report. Surprisingly, while game sales and PlayStation Network monthly users are up, PS5 hardware sales are down by over 20% year-on-year.

If it wasn't for Sony's PS segment, Sony wouldn't even be Sony today. e.g. either a force takeover, many more segments sold off (like it was for Vaio, ect.) to either Samsung, Apple, MS, ect.

But, Sony wants to play the Chicken Game with one of its most profitable portfolio with likes of Concord, super overpriced PS ProNOUN, ect.?!?!

Good luck with that! 😏

So when is this BS about paying for playing online be finally gone? There are no fees to play online on Steam. Or should Sony pay to my internet provider instead of me? Keep the games catalog for subscriptions, but get rid of this ridiculous fee. Or at least for online-only games - you pay full game price ane then you can't even play it without additional subscription. That's a robbery! I regret I chose Sony console for games. Should have rather build a PC...

A bit late for that

That battle was lost over 2 decades ago back when the OG Xbox released in 2001. Besides the niche PC enthusiasts there was zero outcry or pushback from console community regarding requiring payment for online service.

After people saw what Microsoft got away with for 2 generations in a row (OG and 360 era), the other Japanese companies soon followed suit. First Sony with PS4 a decade ago and more recently Nintendo with the switch several years ago.

They're not going back. This is like requesting house rent and car prices like they were in 2008. Give up. It's a lost cause.

PC isn't really that much better tbh. Yeah, online is free but just getting a decent midrange dgpu costs like $500 minimum and CPU basically $200. That's $700. Same as people moaning about ps5 pro costs on a daily basis without even factoring memory, storage, motherboard, monitor, case, keyboard / mouse, windows and etc costs.

One you factor total costs you're basically paying the same as you would for console + 7 years of online and games. Enough to get you to the next generation era of consoles.

Gaming pretty much just sucks these days. Probably best to quit. Focus on self improvement/ career and wait for this unsustainable bubble to collapse. Cuz it's clear none of these companies have our interests in their hearts.
