The OnePlus 12 5G powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gets a lot of things right and offers features generally on par with other Android flagships we've seen so far in 2024. While the OnePlus 12 is probably the best value 8 Gen 3 flagship yet, certain key aspects seem to have been overlooked.

Huge plus for correctly orienting the subpixel matrix on the microscope! This keeps it as clear as possible to versed readers that this device indeed uses an incomplete "DiamondPixel" / "PenTile" matrix with a color resolution lower than stated. The next step should be to begin properly identifying and calling this out in the review.

Heads up, also, that 3168(RG/BG) x 1440 is *not* a 2K resolution! A more appropriate term to use would be 1440p. See the following comment for context: https://www.notebookchat.com/index.php?topic=181913.msg557776#msg557776

4096x2160 as "4K" (cinematographically accurate)
3840x2160 as "4K" (reasonable and acceptable standard for 16:9 monitors)
2560x1440 as "2K" (2.5K, but marketers created a persistent misnomer)
3168x1440 as "2K" (OnePlus-12 counts "2K" as referring to the vertical part of the 1440p resolution)

Thanks for the OnePlus 12 review. Dear editorial staff, could you tell us how you test devices for PWM? I am very sensitive to PWM and therefore purchased an additional opple lightmaster device. I tested it on the Oneplus 12 PWM, as well as several other smartphones, laptops and TVs. The frequencies shown by them corresponded to those stated by the manufacturer. So on the Oneplus 12 with ultra anti flicker TURNED ON at brightness from 100% to about 25%, the frequency was 744hz Hz and the ripple coefficient was around 80-95%. At a brightness below 25%, high-frequency dc-dimming was turned on, it was 2200 Hz. The same indicator is stated by the manufacturer. Without the ultra anti flicker function enabled, at brightness from 100 to 25%, the frequency was 123Hz and the ripple coefficient was 50 - 70%. I also tested my Honor 20 pro with ips display. There the frequency was 19220hz and a coefficient of 9.5% at 50% brightness. Additionally, I tested the Samsung Galaxy s24. The frequency was, as indicated by the manufacturer, 480hz.
