Offering speeds up to 5 Gbps via USB 3.0, the WD My Book desktop external hard drive is also backward compatible with the USB 2.0 interface. The 18 TB model, labeled WDBBGB0180HBK-NESN, is now down by 59% on Amazon, so it can be acquired for an excellent US$218.99 instead of the list price of US$539.99.

It's already back at $310. The 22 TB version was only $350 just last week (and I missed it).

Please tell me where I can find a 22 TB SSD for $350. Or even twice as much.

Sorry to hear that you missed the deals, but I am sure there are more to come this year. We just need to spot them in a timely manner. ;)

The more capacious HDD models, the less profitable it is to buy consumer versions of disks. For a simple reason - the number of read errors. For server models, it is 10 times lower, their reliability is an order of magnitude higher, and they cost almost the same or even cheaper in retail with a 5-year warranty. It's easier to buy the case yourself than to buy this overpriced household junk from WD/Seagate/Toshiba, where the oligopolistic collusion since 2011 has long been obvious. Unless there is NAS support there, ie. RJ45 at 2.5Gbps, at least, with a small price difference with the usb 3.0+ model.

And 2 disks of 16TB are clearly more profitable than one for 22.

IDK about that, but there are 8TB SSDs for ~$220, which are an order of magnitude faster(PCIe link needed though). Even through a SATA link I'll take the SSD over HDD for much lower latency, better shock resistance, far smaller size, and lack of noise and spin up time.
