Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G11 review - The stagnating, expensive business flagship

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon G11 is only a small update with a current Intel Raptor Lake processor that barely offers additional power plus the standard built-in, low-power display is getting on a bit now. So, is the high price justified?

Once a big fan of the X1 Carbon, I am no more. I cannot justify the price for what you get. The lack of a high quality wide-gamut color accurate display outside OLED is a fail, the keyboard is just like the rest now, battery life keeps getting worse, and the thermals are not great. At least with a T14s, you get better thermals, better keyboard, and better battery life for a better price.

If Lenovo is trying to stagnate the Thinkpad brand, they're doing an amazing job! So disappointing to see that happen to just a iconic brand.

According to the review article, the idle power consumption is 3.9 Watt at minimum and 6.3 watt on average. But the wifi websuring test shows almost 14 hours out of the 57 watt internal battery. So, browsing the web consumes approximately 4 watt and less than the average idle power comsumption.

Great review as usual, thanks! Any plans to review the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i 14" (also known as the Yoga Pro 9i 14")?  NotebookCheck posted a quick overview of the laptop a few months ago when it was announced, but hasn't posted a full review since it came out in May. It seems like it might be a worthy alternative to the X1 Carbon, which has indeed been a stagnating line.

Dear reviewer, the panel of the laptop is not "FHD" but rather 14″ WUXGA (1920 x 1200)!

You need to start removing laptops from contention if their latency is high. These are useless for many tasks. 3ms is utterly appalling.

As a user of the Gen10 model I kinda feel bad if I see those numbers in battery life. I can't get 3 hours out of my X1 Carbon Gen10 with the 1255U. A 100% improvement in battery runtime looks quite promising for new customers, but people who paid $2000+ in 2022 are losing out.

I will quote one comment from Reddit, you may find it helpful:

QuoteRemember to turn off "Auto performance mode" (FN+T) it just enables performance mode in windows randomly, draining battery and creating a lot of fan noise. It's just the worst. All our customers are complaining about this system until it is turned off.
