Sony has now confirmed a launch date for its next Xperia 1 device, presumably the Xperia 1 IV. The flagship will make its global debut on May 11, and will arrive with a "next-gen sensor", and next-gen imaging performance, according to Sony.

Because there are smart people who aren't afraid to go away from SamApple and use something much more exciting and useful. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the other 99 is the same as you. In fact, I'm just waiting for the new Sony phone to be officially launched so that I can happily sell my current S22 Ultra.

For me, there's no point being sad about not having a larger sensor when you don't have multiple aperture anyway. When you have a large camera sensor, you do want to dial down the aperture so that it won't produce excessive FoV and bokeh. Sony already proved it all along with the Xperia Pro-I.

Quite another fanboy, unfortunate for Sony.
What even makes you think I use "SamApple"? My current phone is the Vivo NEX3S for its lack of a punch hole and the discrete DAC with the headphone jack, my next phone might be the Mi 13 Ultra for its solid range of cameras and frankly lack of a better option.
The ROGP series stubbornly refuses a more mature design language even though the notebooks that inspired these gaming phones are now moving away from the childishness, not to mention its stagnant camera solution that's less flagship with each passing year, and the removal of the discrete DAC, a huge step backwards. Its cooling solution only has a tangible advantage when coupled to the active cooling accessory anyway.
I hesitate for another Vivo because the UI is bossy in its design choices and doesn't leave nearly enough options for users. And the camera solution of the current flagship isn't working as well as its hardware suggests. The attempt to lock people to its proprietary fast charge protocol without so much as support for QC2.0 or the original PD also stung me. Oppo because the telephoto of the flagship is too short, and because a company with a dead focus on looks...probably will disappoint in some way important, and will have largely the same UI design philosophy if not worse.
I will not go foldable because of the plastic screen experience, durability, and that they generally sacrifice cameras and battery, yielding poor value.
Sony was once an option, but after their stunt with the Pro-I's lens covering only part of the sensor without even a multi-aspect mode, and that eye-searing price of that mediocre device, and this current rumor of the Xperia 1 series continuing to lag behind, I'm ruling them out. I still consider myself a Sony fan and will still consider a7C's successor, and their near-field speakers despite the price, but their phones can no longer compete. As for a TV I'm going TCL, the 98X11G seems unbeatable at the price(I'm getting it 40% below sticker price because of great distribution channels), or at a few grands above even.

I agree with you, I currently own a 1IV and I doubt i'll be upgrading to 1V. The speaker output, pathetic flashlight and lack of basic utility apps (e.g audio recorder) is unacceptable for a device that costs this much. Even the vibration strength is poor and the while the display is 4k, it's always locked at 1080p with no option to enable 4k anytime (then what's the point??). ow they jump on the apple/samsung wagon and have no charger in the box!!
