HP Omen Transcend 16 laptop review: More than just a small name difference

Not to be confused with the regular Omen 16, the Omen Transcend 16 is the next step up for the series complete with newer features and options that future Omen models will likely drawn from. Know all the differences and changes before pulling the trigger.

A very good optimization of the memory controller in the BIOS, against the backdrop of shame from Asus/Lenovo and the rest. Very good processor performance.

Absolutely idiotic keyboard. As the author rightly noted, this laptop cannot even be called a gaming laptop - there is no option with 4080/4090. To work, you need a full-fledged numpad, its absence is the verdict of the entire Omen 2019-2023 series. R.I.P. I miss the almost perfect body and keyboard of 2018.

Ports:
Intel specially made the TB4 controller so that it would be convenient for laptop manufacturers to distribute 2 ports symmetrically on the motherboard - left and right. What do we see again? An idiotic stupid decision to bring both out on the left. And not closer to the edge behind, but in the center. There is a place on the right, why is there no TB port, HP?

Greedy HP wants as much as $2500 for hardware that is weak for games, but at the same time regretted the $4 2.5Gbps RJ45 chip, although for such a price the buyer has the right to expect 5-10Gbps, no less.
Similarly, a buyer at this price has the right to expect 64GB of RAM and 4TB SSD out of the box in the summer of 2023. Or an On-Site level guarantee of at least 3-4 years, with issues fixed within a maximum of 3 business days.

It is not clear what kind of noise, the author did not write how he behaves in heavy intensive surfing, for example, but usually Omen were not famous for silence.

Consumption at rest, as usual, is too high, which negatively affects battery life.

The screen - if you believe the author's measurements, the response is disgusting and even 60Hz this matrix does not have time to draw, but apparently the author is not able to take the correct measurements on miniLED. 1000 zones is shameful against the background of the outdated Ipad Pro, which even then had 4000+ zones.
It would be better if the author paid attention to the measurements and the multi-zone backlight turned off and measured all the characteristics in the normal mode, if possible.

Temperatures under heavy load at the level of the top keyboard reach 47C. This means that in no case should you use this laptop in this mode with the screen closed - it has a critical temperature in the operating mode of 50C and 55-60C in the off mode. Electronic failure is very likely.

The sound is so-so, but you can't expect anything else from HP. It's not Asus.
 
HP, where did the 4k@120Hz panels that you installed already in 2020 in the Omen series go, unlike competitors? Where are they?

Here you just need a 4k @ 120Hz screen, which easily switches, with an integer resize, into a sharp fhd at the pixel level. This is what would allow the owner to at least keep 60fps + in fhd, because. The 4070 is already unable to deliver 60fps+ in high quality in games 2022-2023.

As usual, for the last 4 years, HP has been getting crap that no one needs (that's why Omen is gathering dust everywhere on the shelves) - as a game it is weak, as a universal laptop for home/office, work - a bad keyboard without a сlassical numpad, and then there is also the lack of a second slot SSD. Plus, overpriced by at least $900...

I totally agree about the sentiments of HP. Their consumer and gaming laptop line has become unimpressive.
Consider their Envy/x360 line, their upper mid-ranged line. They still use 16:9 panels with the base one having 250nits. The AMD models are the worse. They used 3 consecutive yearly models with the Barcelo Apu: 2021-5700U/5800U series; 2022-5*25U and this year again 7030U series! This is supposed to be their premium product and they rehash innards year over year and charging more each time! On the Intel side, even HP's budget 'HP laptop' line got the latest 13 gen CPUs since March!

Only Lenovo and Asus have used the newest APU tech from AMD each year since 5000 Series. Dell and Acer did the same as HP.
Either AMD is way above their heads not providing adequate 7040 units or Laptop manufacturers still in bed with Intel! Their 14th gen releasing at end of year and I won't be surprised to see all manufacturer's consumer/gaming lines containing those CPUs! AMD can forget about Dell's XPS/9000 series; Lenovo's Slim/Yoga 9 series or HP's Spectre series.

Not sure which Envy x360 you are referring to. My HP ENVY x360 2-in-1 Laptop 13-bf0013ne has a 13.3" (1920 x 1200) 400 Nits screen, i7 1250U CPU, is all metal and costs less than 1000 Euro. Can't fault that

They phased-out the 13" for a 14". Their 15" models are still 16:9 and use 250 nit base panels starting at >$1000. HP is yet to use the best AMD Apu models starting from last year's 6000 series which was better than Intel's 12th gen overall. For 3 years straight HP used the barcelo based Apus in all their mid-ranged consumer lines (except the high-end Spectre which is Intel only). AMD's Zen 4 7040U/H Apus are superior to Intel's 13th gen overall. That's what customers want!

All titles are playable on high to maximum settings at the native QHD+ resolution including even demanding titles like Returnal or Cyberpunk 2077.
