This is my type of laptop.  I currently watch TV shows on my 1080p 21.5 inch monitor and found the picture to be too big.  I don't even know why 23.8/27 inch monitors are mainstream.  That is just ridiculously large for media consumption.  16 inches seems to hit the sweet spot for movie watching.   Also, I would want two USB 3+ ports side by side on a laptop.  Some HDD USB drive enclosures require two USB ports to work (one to draw extra power and one for mainly data transfer).

I hope Huawei is listening -- get rid of the terrible nose camera, up the resolution to 1080p, and with Alder Lake this would be an unquestionable must buy in 2022.

It's good that they are listening and the new MateBook 16 and 14s are both indeed very solid laptops.
Having said that, I don't think it's 'good enough' that a "Premium" laptop without a dGPU should weigh over 2 kg.

Samsung, LG, Vaio and Fujitsu, being material-engineering focused companies figured out years ago how to make their big laptops and tablets super lightweight. Acer and Tong Fang (XMG Schenker) are currently following that lead by preparing to launch 15/16" laptops with 45W CPUs at under 1.4 kg.

At 1200 USD, this particular kind of laptop needs to have 1) lighter parts, 2) brighter screen, and 3) 32GB+ RAM option, to get the target consumer who mainly wants the CPU horsepower + big screen.

Because otherwise, you might as well just buy another name-brand with a more powerful GPU like 3050/1660Ti included the same weight and price.

I don't see what the problem is.  I have a Dell laptop native 2.0 GHz I had to downclock to 1.0GHz just to keep it from overheating and shutting down.  Huawei is playing it safe by keeping the TDP of the Matebook 16 low.  You may think it's a silly idea but 3-5 years later, I can guarantee you still have a good functioning laptop, instead of one where you have to half its clock speed just to keep the thermals in check and run it for longer than 5 minutes.

Plus, anyone looking for raw computing power and high TDP's, don't ever consider getting a laptop.  I have 2.3GHz desktop that puts my 3.4GHz laptop to shame.  The "slower" desktop takes 3 minutes to complete the same task the "faster" laptop took 7 minutes to do...  They're both Intel CPUs and same gen Core!

On second thought, seeing how the screen of the Matebook 16 wobbles a lot in the YT video (I tend to use a laptop a lot on my lap and not on a stable surface) that kind of turned me off the idea of getting a large laptop for media consumption.

It seems to me the perfect bedside PC is actually a desktop kept on a computer desk with wheels so you can slide it next to your bedside...

So no Wifi 6.

Hi,
I read on the official site consumer.huawei.com/en/laptops/matebook-d-16-amd/ that there are two slots for SSDs ("2 TB refers to the maximum capacity supported by two hard disk slots. A single hard disk slot supports a maximum of 1 TB capacity. Only supports M.2 2280 SSD storage."). Where is the second slot? I disassembled but did not find the second SDD slot.

Everything is the best except RAM which should be increased to 32GB. I hope Huawei will introduce laptops with XEON processors in the future and will not get banned like mobiles.
