Apple's Studio Display, which currently costs from US$1,599, is a weird mix of professional and consumer features that kind of put it in a class entirely on its own - too consumer-grade for professionals and too professional for most consumers. There is little direct competition, but knowing your needs can help you find a better solution.

Yes Really

This article is tragic, the first two options are not even viable alternatives. No one in the market for the Studio Display will buy a display with less than half the PPI.

"Studio Display killers"

600 nits brightness is the killer feature of Studio Display and iMacs. 400-nits displays are hard to read on a bright day even with blinds closed, and working from home you often cannot choose which side a window is facing.
Could not find anything 600 nits non-Apple, even 500 nits were gaming monitors for $1,500 and lower DPI.

Oh dear you can't use Google then. You know why you need more nits on Apple display? Because it's gloss and you will have to set it to high brightness to fight off the glare.
Secondly there are plenty of mojitos that in HDR go beyond 700 nits. You will have soon Acer 32" 4k 160hz 1200 nits mini led display that will cost 2k (similarly to Apple display with better adjustable stand which Acer surprise surprise supplies). Push this monitor further and you'll have same retina quality as this 5k.
