No, not in the sense that they need to make it open source.
But like Ars said, they could at least show some code that aren't simple modifications from AOSP, as yet they don't even provide enough for a dev to be able to write anything that runs natively on said kernel, Linux can emulate Windows because somebody wrote an emulator.

Laughable claim. Even ZTE, another major beneficiary of heavy CCP subsidies and political favors, declared unmistakable refusal to use HarmonyOS, much less the other more private manufacturers Xiaomi and the BBK squad, but I'm not gonna argue politics with you since it's pointless anyway.
