Lenovo's first X1 ThinkPad with Intel Tiger Lake is slated for a release around December to January. We have asked Lenovo some open questions about the specifications of the lightest ThinkPad yet - and we have gotten two interesting answers.

Huhuhu

Everytime I read about a ThinkPad with less than 1.8mm keyboard travel, my doctor diagnoses me pipi cancer.

One day we will see a ThinkPad X1 Extreme with potent 35 Watt AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS + RTX 3060 Max-Q...

Wanna have an actually practical screen aspect ratio? Enjoy botched keyboard! Later we can say "people liked it, 'cos they bought it, so we're gonna introduce 1.35mm travel to all Thinkpads! They are so slim, look at them!"

I have the xps 15 and the keyboard is unusable with the limited key travel, I hope lenovo isn't turning into a dell

I was secretly dreaming of a UP4, but not holding my breath because i've seen some pictures of the Nano with a fan. So i'm a bit confused. Is it fanless?

But if it turns to be true i'm delighted. Why? because with Linux (Ubuntu) it should run like a Tiger, like my actual X1 tablet first gen (Core M 6). Everything seems OK for me, the size, weight, battery life; a perfect travel companion. Don't care as much for the "performance", don't plan to build a Linux kernel on this machine.

For those who want a portable workstation running hot like an iron and throttling there's enough choice on the market .. To each his own.

If true, excellent choice and about time.

@notebookcheck why do you say UP4 is slower? slower relative to what?  Of course it is slower than a 28W TDP Core U laptop  running hot, throttling and attached to an outlet.

About time to talk about power efficiency and less about "performance". It is sad to see Apple showing what a laptop should be with their M1. Would you say it is slower ? Of course not!

No, it isn't fanless. As stated in the article, the CPU is still supposed to consume up to 15 W, cooling that without a fan might be difficult.

I notice the Lenovo US site quotes a minimum weight of 957g.

However the Lenovo UK site has 907g.
