10 nm Intel Tiger Lake-U CPU spotted inside a Microsoft Surface Laptop, performs better than the Ryzen 7 4700U

The latest 3DMark tests reveal that the 2.7 GHz / 4.3 GHz quad-core/octa-thread Tiger Lake-U should be faster than the Ryzen 7 4700U and its Gen 12 Xe iGPU could end up 10-20% faster than that of the Ryzen 7 4800U. These results were apparently submitted from an upcoming Microsoft Surface Laptop.

The Next Surface Laptop Prediction: 128GB (yes in 2020 and still making them) asking price of $999. If you want 256GB then pay $1299. For 1TB version you get i7 by force and pay $2000. Welcome to stone age. They will start crippling here and there too...blah blah blah... Microsoft is very predictable.

My acer laptop came with 500GB and that was 11 years ago.

That doesn't look so good overall, since 4800u scores 11,159 on the physics test and 5,068 on the graphics test. So that is almost 40% slower cpu. Sure they get 10% better graphics, but AMD still has the 4900u

imagine the whole graphics performance scale from 1 to 100 points. 1 should be the slowest and the cheapest, basically no money for the customer and productivity level is like "i can watch youtube". 100 points is a 200w 1000 usd monster to play any game you want with the max possible fps.
so, my question, where the fastest integrated(tiger/vega/whatever) on this scale from 1 to 100 is?

@william blake - if your goal is simply watching youtube then you might be better off with an ARM tablet.

I know what you are trying to say that integrated graphics don't matter much because there is such a thing as dedicated GPUs. While the iGPUs might be competitive at the low end, a midrange or upper range GPU would always win.

BUT, things aren't that simple. First of all, even with a gaming laptop you get benefits of a stronger iGPU such as with Vulkan and DX12. The other thing to consider is that you can use the iGPU to extend usage, for example let us say you are on a flight with no power outlets. You can game at low settings on the iGPU for the entire flight or game at max settings for 1/3rd the flight.

Not all usage is also about gaming. Some people might be doing creative work that would benefit from a more powerful iGPU but would benefit less from a dGPU. Especially if you plan to use your laptop on your lap or on the go.

Before Renoir we were at a 15-20.
Renoir is a 30.
Tiger Lake looks to be maybe 32 but it's very early to say.

The move to 5nm next year will bring some very powerful chips to the low power world.

Zen 3 + RDNA 2.0 on a 5nm process could easily get to a 40-45.

For reference I would put a RX 5700 at around 50.

The main issue for iGPUs is memory speeds, could we see 8GB of graphics memory on the chip? Why not I guess. That is what 2.5D and 3D stacking is all about.

If you expect 80% of the performance of a 5700 in a mobile iGPU any time soon I'd like to know your supplier. 8GBs of vram alone would exceed the entire TDP of the CPU+GPU.

Also would like to know what gpu is 4x as fast as a 5700 to get the 200 score from you.
