Full speed ahead. After the top GPUs from the last Nvidia generation were still based on the Kepler architecture, both the GeForce GTX 980M and GTX 970 finally use the Maxwell architecture. We check the performance with the Clevo P651SE Barebone.

this review seems to indicate the opposite, don't know what is different between these two reviews.

It is the processor, Intel Core i7-4870HQ with the Iris GPU that makes the high temps. Please do a test with the 4710HQ :)

Anon

What makes those surface temps is the 150w ac adaptor. It stresses the VRM when the laptop is in full load.

Great reviews...

Having read both this and the P505 Pro (P651SG) a few times now I wonder how much of the heat is due to the Samsung XP941 M.2 PCIe SSD rather than the 4870HQ CPU?

Reviews elsewhere (such as http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Samsung-XP941-Plextor-PX-G256-M6e-M-2-Qualification-575/#M_2DriveTemperatures) show up to 113 deg C! Other reviews show the same.

If you guys still have the P651SE (or get another one) it would be great to do a little update article. Switching out the XP941 for a normal SSD (such as a 500GB Samsung 840/850 EVO).

Also very interested to see your thoughts of this laptop with the 3K option.

Just thought I'd point out that despite the heat the XP941 kicks out this may be a red-herring (pun intended).

The M.2 PCIe slot is, approx, front and center (as you look at the heat map) not in the back right corner so the 76 deg C measured in the review isn't (directly anyway) a fault of the XP941.

The back right corner is the GPU. The XP941 may be contributing to the heat build up of course but may not be the main culprit.

Eagerly waiting for XMG U505 review too. Should be interesting to compare if desktop CPU+chipset worth added bulk.

Hi everyone!

I own a P651SE with specs:
i7-4710hq
GTX 970m 3gb
16gb ddr3 1600
Plextor 256GB M6G-2280
BIOS/EC 1.03.04

I am planning to upgrade the store to a new m.2 ssd drive and would prefer adding a pci-e rather than another sata.

I seem to find serval opinions over internet about the laptop support for a mix of m.2 sata ssd + m.2 pci-e ssd.

I am cosindering two models:
> Samsung XP941 256GB pci-e (pci-e x4)
> Plextor M6e 256GB M.2 PCIe (PX-G256M6e) (pci-e x2)

My questions are.
1) Can i have both drives (current Plextor 256GB M6G-2280 m.2 sata + new m.2 pci-e) installed?
2) If 1) affirmative, would it be possible to boot from both drives? Plan to have pci-e ssd for win 7/win 8.1 video edition and gaming and the sata ssd with win7 for development purposes.
3) If 2) affirmative. To choose the drive to boot from would it be enough to press f7 at boot to select drive?

Thank you in advance.
