Dell XPS 13 and XPS 15 InfinityEdge with Intel Skylake Overview

Dell introduces four new versions of the XPS 15 with InfinityEdge display as well as seven different configurations of the popular XPS 13 this autumn. The following article is a commented overview of the available versions. Which configuration is recommended for which scenario?

Just to add something that is of use. The models with the 1TB+32SSD are not one hybrid unit. The 32GB SSD is an msata module that can be changed right away. So it's not that bad of a solution, considering that a 256gb module costs about 80 euros or less, and you get the extra storage of the hdd.

The XPS 13 has nice configurations available but the XPS 15 has s*** configurations in my opinion. Why don't that have some FHD models with SSD and 84W battery and take out the GTX 960? Or why don't they simply have a cheaper FHD + SSD model, I mean not a lot of people want 4k, and in 15" it's just not worth it. It's such an awesome laptop but they destroy it with their s*** configurations. :(

I'd like to have the XPS 15 offered with the FHD display (touch and glossy screens are unwanted), with a 1TB drive (I'd add my own mSata drive), a 2 core Skylake processor (4 core is just waste heat 95% of the time), and 8GB of ram.

Keep the price reasonable and I'd be a buyer.

This absolutely sucks. Why can't I get a FHD version with the core i7 + 1TB SSD? I'll be hooking the laptop to a 4K TV for my gaming anyway, and I need a Core i7 to drive the inevitable eGPU solution with that Thunderbolt 3.0 USB-C. I have no need for touch and the high resolution esp on a panel that small with the impact on battery life.

Did they fix the "dynamic contrast" "feature" of the display panel that is making the lives of current XPS 13 owners a misery, or is it at least optional and configurable via a BIOS switch? See https://github.com/advancingu/XPS13Linux/issues/2

Touchpad-

It is well documented that the previous XPS13 had significant problems with it's touchpad which still hasn't been resolved. Is there any indication that the new model has a new touchpad? That's the make it or break it question for me.
