Xiaomi has unveiled the Sports Walkie Talkie, which is designed for skiing, cycling, and other sports. The gadget is about to launch in China and offers up to 5,000 km (~3,107 miles) range thanks to support for multiple 4G networks. Other features include noise reduction, Bluetooth connectivity and app-based controls.

And you can do the same thing with an app on a iPhone or Android phone and just forget having to buy this device..  and it would be world wide also ..
Solving an issue where there isn't any .. genius!

This is absolutely NOT a walkie talkie, it's a mobile phone with a VOIP app and PTT. Claims like 5000KM makes for a misleading product. If you want to lose credibility don't promote scammy products like this.

There is a rising trend of advertising these PoC radios as somehow being walkie talkies, or equivalent terminology. They are basically cellular phones and rely on the existing cellular infrastructure to operate. They are absolutely no use for what is referred to as an shtf scenario, because without the cellular network in place, they either have zero or extremely limited Simplex range. Basically it is false/deceptive advertising and attempting to appeal to the Prepper market, who really should know better anyway. The other thing to consider is that for most of these radios there is an ongoing fee after the first initial period. Many of the adverts for these radios state "No monthly fee", but in actual fact they have a yearly fee instead. Don't get conned.

Thank you!
You saved my time. This phrase should have been in the article's title right away.

Of course this is a walki-talki, just different tech than radio frequencies.  Why? Because this like the American version (ones we bought) are press-talk-release.  There is NO two way simultaneous dialog possible.  ALSO, the American version had ZERO operating costs to use as the initial purchase buys spare multi-carrier contracted connectivity at very small transmission bursts.  So, walki-talki.

They are great where out T-MOBILE cannot connect.
Great for kids, grandchildren etc as ZERO costs EVER.

Please open the product website and read description. It is a kind of hands-free device with low-temperature operation capability. Must have 4G field, locked to China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, serves as PTT.
