Sonos' TV box plans potentially derailed by mobile app debacle

The well-known audio company Sonos had been planning a new product to take on the likes of Roku and Google Chromecast - however, it may have to delay the release of the brand-first product. The OEM is now reportedly shedding employees, not to mention the production of its inaugural Ace wireless headphones compared to in-house projections. The source of all this adversity is said to lie in the furore caused by what should have been a simple update to its smartphone app.

Figures...

many might not recall that Bose used to offer WiFi speaker products and had difficulty & issues with 'software updates' and exited the market.

(to recap: Bose would 'push out' un-needed or wanted 'updates' to their speakers which would OFTEN render them unusable until the owner went through a lenghty reset process to get them back to where they were BEFORE the unwanted update occurred)

Granted all these products 'operate on' some sort of embedded Linux client and may (or not!) have a firewall enabled so there is a remote possibility of one getting 'compromised'. :)

The app, redesigned earlier this year, was met with backlash for losing critical features Hole IO and experiencing bugs. This has resulted in delays for multiple product releases, including the new set-top box.
