How much PC performance can you buy for the price of a PS5 Pro?

The PS5 Pro is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. At $699 (plus $75 extra if you want a physical disk drive), that's a good chunk of change for a device that only really plays games. So, exactly how much PC could one buy for that amount of cash, and would it be competitive?

If you add the disk drive to the price of PS5 Pro, then you must add a disk drive to the PC as well. Also, don't forget that PS5 comes with a DualSense controller, which costs $70. Add that to the PC price, too. It would only make this comparison fair.

I'm sorry but...

Unless the PS5-Pro has a DEDICATED overclocked AMD GPU those that think that an AMD APU is going to compete with Nvidia's mid range dGPU's might be dreaming of 'magic' that clearly does not exist.

Compare PS5-Pro to 4060-4070 is a lie.
PS5-Pro uses AI upscale for 4K. Its GPU performance is not 4K capable.
Unless there is a real benchmark result, we should assume that Sony use AMD APU like all previous consoles, and there is no way APU can get near 4060.

stating a 4070 equivalent is waaaay off base. You have to consider power (watts), also clock rates, its also a non dedicated gpu,its actually an apu. A more reasonable assumption is a radeon 6800. The biggest issue however is the cpu, The cpu not having an upgrade will seriously bottleneck the system, especially in open world games... and those wanting higher framerates (namely everyone) This was also an issue for xbox 1x at its launch.... higher resolution yes... but not many games with higher framerates due to the cpu. It has "more advanced" ray tracing because that comes with a better gpu (rather apu)... its not 3 things that are better as the announcement stated, its actually 2,as one is just obvious.
Ive seen some say its as fast as a 7800xt and some thats its as fast as an rtx4070, which is utterly ludicrous. It MIGHT be as fast as say a 3070 laptop gpu  or a 6800 desktop gpu at best.... nowhere near the rtx 40 series.
Im pretty sure my rtx4080 laptop with i9 14900hx will trounce it

Another thing to consider, its all down to devs and having 60fps modes, etc. PC gamers get options in almost every game for framerate, quality etc.
As far as cost.... for a couple hundred more you could actually find a much faster desktop build with a 7800xt
around a grand in cost
you can output to a tv just like a console if you want to. You could also buy a used pc or used pc parts at a better price. You can play sony games on steam if you wish.
